Purpose of the Position:
The OSP Fiber Technician is responsible for the hands-on placement and installation of fiber optic cable systems, with a primary focus on underground conduit, innerduct, and aerial strand environments. Working under the direction of the OSP Construction Manager, this technician executes daily construction activities in accordance with project plans, Methods of Procedure (MOPs), and Bills of Materials (BOMs). The role demands proficiency with cable pulling and blowing equipment, hand and power tools, and field construction machinery across all outdoor weather conditions. All work is performed in strict compliance with OSHA and applicable safety standards, with a consistent focus on quality, accountability, and schedule adherence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Pull, place, and install fiber optic cable in underground conduit, innerduct, and aerial strand systems in accordance with pulling tension and bend radius specifications.
• Operate fiber blowing and jetting equipment, cable tuggers, winches, tensioners, and duct rodders safely and efficiently.
• Read and interpret OSP construction prints, staking sheets, and splice diagrams to execute work from provided plans.
• Install and properly dress fiber slack coils and cable storage at handholes, vaults, pedestals, and splice enclosures per design specifications.
• Perform pre- and post-pull continuity checks using a visual fault locator (VFL) to confirm cable integrity.
• Prepare trucks, trailers, and crew with the materials and equipment required for each scheduled pull.
• Complete daily field reports, including as-built notes, COD documentation, and required photo deliverables.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite at all times in accordance with OSHA standards and client requirements.
• Support the crew lead and OSP Construction Manager with task sequencing, material staging, and production reporting as directed.
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies Required:
• 1 to 3 years of OSP fiber construction or telecommunications field experience required.
• Demonstrated experience pulling fiber optic and copper cable in underground, buried, and aerial environments.
• Working knowledge of duct rodding techniques, cable blowing and jetting systems, and safe pulling tension limits.
• Ability to read and interpret OSP construction documents including prints, staking sheets, and MOPs.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship on every task.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain workflow productivity in a fast-paced field environment.
• Good judgment with the capacity to make timely, sound decisions with minimal supervision.
• Versatility and willingness to adapt to changing project priorities with a positive, team-first approach.
• Ability to lift 75 lbs repeatedly and work comfortably at heights and in confined spaces including manholes and vaults.
• Valid driver's license required; CDL a plus.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification a plus.
Work Environment:
• Outdoor construction environment in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and high-humidity climates.
• Work performed at grade, in trenches, and in confined spaces including manholes and underground vaults.
• Frequent exposure to heavy equipment, high-noise environments, and active roadway condition

Travel required; employees return home on weekends. Extended project deployment may apply based on operational needs.
Computer Equipment and Software:
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word) and Adobe Acrobat required.
• Experience with Deltek, SiteTracker, or equivalent project management and field reporting platforms a plus.
• Ability to complete and submit daily field documentation including photo logs, COD reports, and as-built records via mobile device or tablet.
