Job Title: Senior Structural Engineer (PE)

Employment Type: Full-Time or 1099 Contract

Location: Remote – Open to Candidates Nationwide

Job Overview: U.S. Forensic is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer (PE) with expertise in structural forensics to support forensic investigations and engineering projects within a designated regional territory. This opportunity is open to qualified candidates nationwide, with remote work flexibility. Both full-time employees and independent contractors (1099) will be considered.

This role is ideal for experienced, senior-level engineers who are seeking flexible, project-driven work while applying their technical expertise to complex forensic investigations. U.S. Forensic evaluates residential, commercial, and industrial structures, and the selected engineer will independently investigate structural failures, construction defects, and damage causation matters. The successful candidate will develop defensible engineering opinions supported by sound methodology, provide technical leadership across a variety of projects, and, when necessary, deliver expert testimony.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in structural engineering, hold an active Professional Engineer (PE) license, and demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate findings through detailed reports, client interactions, and legal proceedings.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct detailed forensic investigations involving structural failures, building damage, construction deficiencies, code-related issues, and causation analyses for residential, commercial, and industrial properties.
  • Perform on-site inspections to evaluate structural conditions, document observations, collect data, take measurements, and preserve evidence relevant to engineering assessments.
  • Analyze structural systems utilizing engineering principles, applicable building codes, industry standards, construction documents, and supporting technical data.
  • Determine the cause, origin, extent, and responsibility of structural failures, property damage, and construction-related defects.
  • Prepare clear, thorough, and defensible engineering reports, including findings, opinions, conclusions, repair recommendations, and supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with clients, attorneys, insurance carriers, contractors, architects, and other stakeholders throughout the investigation and reporting process.
  • Provide technical consultation and expert opinions during litigation, mediation, arbitration, or insurance claim proceedings.
  • Deliver deposition and expert witness testimony when required and support legal teams with technical analysis and case preparation.
  • Manage multiple assignments while maintaining project schedules, budgets, and high-quality deliverables.
  • Stay current with evolving building codes, engineering standards, forensic methodologies, and industry best practices.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
