Job description

JOB PURPOSE

This is a global role within the Journals Editorial Department, with responsibility for the resolution of publication ethics cases. The Research Integrity Editor uses their knowledge of peer review, publication ethics, their effective communication, and organisational skills to investigate ethics cases and bring them to resolution. They work with colleagues across Editorial, Legal and Peer Review to investigate potential breaches of publication ethics independently. They work with the (Senior) Research Integrity Manager in developing processes, guidance and workflows appropriate for managing ethical issues across the journals portfolio.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

· Independently manage, investigate and resolve publication ethics cases in line with COPE guidelines and Sage policies.

· Proactively identify opportunities for improvement in workflows for publication ethics investigations and work with the (Senior) Research Integrity Manager on implementation.

· Act as an initial point of contact for ethics cases involving controversial or sensitive topics

· Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders on behalf of Sage in investigating publication ethics cases and bringing them to resolution in a timely manner.

· Use appropriate judgement in escalating cases where necessary, ensuring that key internal stakeholders are apprised of situations that may pose a risk to Sage.

· Working with the (Senior) Research Integrity Manager, provide advice to Editorial and Peer Review teams on effective communication about research integrity matters with external stakeholders.

· Maintain successful relationships with global Editorial, Peer Review and Legal teams.

· Participate in the testing of novel tools and technology to support research integrity strategic objectives, including training other users where necessary.

· Contribute to training and development of editors in publication ethics and research integrity.

· Oversee large volumes of sensitive and confidential information for working on

· publication ethics cases in line with GDPR regulations.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

· Experience of working on a range of publication ethics cases in journals.

· Direct experience of managing or investigating peer review processes.

· Understanding of research integrity challenges in scholarly publishing.

· A continual improvement mindset.

· Creative problem-solving abilities.

· An understanding of online submission systems, preferably with direct experience of

· working with ScholarOne Manuscripts.

· High attention to detail and organisation skills to manage multiple priorities.

· Discretion and good judgement in handling complexity and sensitive information.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to communicate confidently and clearly.

· Excellent prioritisation skills and a high level of adaptability.

· Proficient in standard IT packages, including Microsoft Office and basic web database

· driven dynamic online sites like ScholarOne Manuscripts
