Database Migration Consultant

FTE only - Range $170K Base + QPLC to $200K Base + QPLC

Location: 100% Remote

Job Description: Database Migration Consultant

Summary: Assist the Marketing team performing large-scale schema-level MySQL database migrations from on-premises (Tungsten HA clusters) to AWS Aurora MySQL, and develop supporting automation and tooling to enable repeatable execution across 5000+ schemas

Key Responsibilities

Perform and assist with schema-level MySQL database migrations (dump, transfer, load, index rebuild) using MySQL Shell utilities at scale

Set up and manage binlog replication (CDC) from Tungsten clusters to Aurora — including catch-up monitoring and cutover execution

Develop and enhance migration scripts using Python and Bash for repeatable, resilient operations

Build Ansible playbooks for end-to-end orchestration of parallel schema migrations (8+ concurrent streams)

Create monitoring and observability tooling

Coordinate with customer's DBA team on cutover sequencing, validation, and rollback procedures

Document runbooks and transfer knowledge to enable the customer team to execute migrations independently

MySQL Shell utilities — dumpSchemas, loadDump, mysql shell, parallel dump/restore at scale

Aurora MySQL — provisioning, external replication setup, performance tuning

Binlog replication / CDC — setup, monitoring, failover recovery

Python — scripting, automation, AWS SDKs (boto3), CLI tools

Ansible — playbook development, role-based orchestration, error handling

Shell scripting — Bash, process orchestration

AWS services — EC2, S3, CloudWatch, IAM, networking basics

Preferred:

Experience with Tungsten Replicator clusters

AWS Step Functions or similar workflow orchestration

Familiarity with Database schema-level migrations vs. full instance dumps

Multi-tenant SaaS database architecture experience
