Software Engineering Manager (AI-First)

We're hiring a hands-on Software Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing remote engineering team building AI-powered software for the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry.

This is a genuine player-coach position, combining technical leadership with hands-on software development. Around half of your time will be spent designing architecture, writing production code, reviewing pull requests, and solving complex engineering problems. The other half will focus on mentoring engineers, driving delivery, improving development practices, and creating an environment where talented people can do their best work.

You'll lead a multidisciplinary team working across full-stack applications, modern web technologies, and interactive 3D experiences. AI is central to how the team operates, and you'll play a key role in continuously evolving AI-assisted engineering workflows, agentic development practices, and shared engineering knowledge.

This role suits someone who enjoys solving difficult technical challenges, removing obstacles for others, and leading from the front.

What You'll Do

* Contribute production-quality code alongside the team while providing technical leadership through architecture, design decisions, and code reviews.

* Own the delivery, technical quality, reliability, and long-term health of customer-facing products.

* Lead the adoption and evolution of AI-assisted software development, including agentic workflows, shared AI skills, reusable prompts, and engineering best practices.

* Measure and improve engineering productivity using AI while maintaining high standards for quality and maintainability.

* Mentor engineers in software craftsmanship, system design, and effective use of AI tools.

* Ensure high service reliability, establish clear incident response practices, and drive rapid resolution of customer-impacting issues.

* Partner closely with Product and senior leadership to plan roadmaps, estimate work, manage priorities, and make informed technical trade-offs.

* Remove delivery blockers, coordinate cross-team dependencies, and help engineers maintain focus.

* Foster a collaborative engineering culture built around ownership, continuous learning, and continuous delivery.

What We're Looking For

* Proven experience leading high-performing remote software engineering teams.

* Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and retain exceptional engineers.

* Demonstrated experience implementing AI-first engineering practices across a development team.

* Experience leading teams that actively use AI coding assistants, agentic development tools, and AI-enhanced workflows as part of their daily work.

* Strong technical background in TypeScript and React with confidence working across the full stack, including C# backend development.

* Experience improving the performance, scalability, and maintainability of modern web applications.

* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineers, designers, product managers, and executive stakeholders.

* A strong sense of ownership and accountability for both technical outcomes and team performance.

* Comfortable making difficult technical decisions, balancing short-term delivery with long-term sustainability.

* A proactive mindset with the ability to remove obstacles, build momentum, and deliver results in a fast-moving environment.

Desirable Experience

You'll stand out if you also have experience with one or more of the following:

* Interactive 3D web technologies such as Three.js, WebGL, or WebAssembly.

* Rust and the Bevy game engine.

* CAD, BIM, digital construction, or building design software.

* Cloud infrastructure, AWS, Terraform, or Infrastructure as Code.

* Working directly with customers to understand problems and shape product direction.
