Responsibilities as a Senior Finance Operations Specialist
• Coordinate Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) application submissions.
• Support equity, construction and permanent loan closings.
• Coordinate Know Your Customer (KYC), due diligence requirements and secure portal submissions.
• Track project milestones from construction financing through permanent loan conversion.
• Monitor cost certification, IRS Form 8609 processes and ongoing financing compliance requirements.
• Maintain financing calendars, project trackers and supporting documentation.
• Build, maintain and continuously improve Excel-based trackers, reports and workflow tools.
• Develop, maintain and enhance Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for recurring finance processes.
• Maintain financial compliance checklists and ensure critical deadlines are consistently achieved.
• Coordinate with internal teams, lenders, investors and external stakeholders to keep projects progressing smoothly.
• Maintain financial records, digital document repositories and project data rooms.
• Interpret financial and legal documentation and convert information into actionable tasks, summaries and database updates.
• Collect, organise and analyse financial and property performance data.
• Support budgeting, reporting, financial analysis and performance dashboards.
• Monitor key financial and operational milestones across multiple active projects.
• Take ownership of assigned workflows, delivering accurate outcomes independently rather than simply coordinating activities.
• Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, systems and operational efficiencies across the business.
Qualifications as a Senior Finance Operations Specialist
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related is strongly preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years' proven experience in Accounting, Finance, Real Estate Finance or a similar financial operations role.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are essential, including XLOOKUP, SUMIFS and the ability to confidently work with complex spreadsheets and large datasets. Successful candidates will complete an Excel assessment as part of the recruitment process.
• Outstanding task management skills with the ability to confidently manage multiple deadlines, projects, files and trackers without compromising accuracy.
• Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to consistently produce high-quality work.
• Clear, proactive communication skills with the confidence to ask questions, provide regular updates and raise potential issues early.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
• Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new systems, concepts and business processes.
• Experience creating reports, trackers and operational documentation.
• Ability to develop, document and continuously improve Standard Operating Procedures
• Experience interpreting financial and legal documentation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with Yardi, QuickBooks, Smartsheet or Monday.com is advantageous.
• Experience using AI productivity tools such as Microsoft Copilot or Claude is desirable.
• Experience within affordable housing, LIHTC or real estate development is beneficial but not essential. Full training will be provided for the right candidate.
