Job description

CAREER IN MICROTECHNOLOGY RESEARCH – BIG OPPORTUNITIES WITH SMALL STRUCTURES!
CHANGE STARTS WITH US.
Do you want to change the world through science? Then the Fraunhofer Institute for Electronic Microsystems and Solid State Technologies EMFT is the perfect place to start your career!

With around 190 highly qualified employees at our locations in Munich, Oberpfaffenhofen and Regensburg, we combine many years of experience with extensive expertise in microelectronics and microsystems technology. Our wide range of technologies spans from advanced semiconductor processes and MEMS technologies to innovative 3D integration and flexible electronics.

These nano and microtechnologies form the foundation of our diverse fields of expertise, which include sensor technology, circuit design, system solutions with AI, analysis and testing, as well as micropumps.

Through the close collaboration of our experts, not only groundbreaking innovations arise, but also synergies that enable Fraunhofer EMFT to effectively tackle the complex challenges of our time.

The Test Group is currently being set up and will be responsible for developing and operationally delivering test solutions for semiconductor devices and microelectronic systems. These devices and/or systems are developed either at the EMFT itself or in research projects in collaboration with partners, or are provided by industry as part of collaborative projects. Starting with the validation of test structures, test chips or prototypes, through to product validation and characterisation, and on to pre-series testing, test solutions are developed and implemented on the test equipment.
To this end, industry-compatible test equipment is installed at the EMFT, enabling testing at wafer and component level and, where appropriate, facilitating direct transfer to industrial partners and test service providers.

Be part of change

  • Supporting the installation and maintenance of industry-standard test equipment (ATE, wafer probers, additional measurement technology)
  • Developing test programmes for validation, characterisation and pre-production testing in close collaboration with the design teams (in-house, at research partners, and at industrial customers)
  • Development/procurement of the associated test hardware (loadboards, probe cards, etc.)
  • Close collaboration with internal design teams, research partners and industrial clients
  • Collaboration with test equipment manufacturers and test service providers#Supporting our business activities with our industrial clients through your technical expertise
  • Representing our institute and our department at scientific conferences and project meetings, presenting results at events and seeking professional exchange
  • Participating in technical discussions with other experts and developing new ideas
  • Publishing results in high-impact scientific publications and reports

What you contribute

•    A successfully completed Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, Microsystems Engineering, Semiconductor Technology or a similar field
•    Excellent knowledge of electrical measurement technology
•    Good to very good programming skills in C, C++ or Python
•    At least 5 years’ experience in semiconductor testing (test development, wafer testing, final testing)
•    High level of motivation and the ability to quickly familiarise yourself with new challenges
•    The ability to work independently and in a structured manner, whilst keeping an eye on the bigger picture, and excellent problem-solving skills
•    Very good communication skills in German and English
