Job description

At Horace Mann, we know that behind every claim is a customer looking for guidance and support during an unexpected event. We are seeking an experienced Auto Claims Adjuster II to investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and resolve auto claims while delivering an exceptional customer experience.

In this role, you'll independently manage a diverse inventory of claims, applying your advanced claims knowledge to determine coverage, investigate liability, evaluate damages, and negotiate fair settlements. The ideal candidate is a collaborative problem solver who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to delivering timely, accurate, and compassionate service.

Must be flexible to work shift between 7a-7p central time. 

Key Responsibilities

Claims Investigation & Evaluation

  • Verify coverage and investigate liability, damages, and the scope of loss for assigned auto claims.
  • Evaluate claim facts, determine claim value, and negotiate settlements in accordance with company best claim practices.
  • Investigate multi-vehicle accidents and other complex loss scenarios while making sound claims decisions.
  • Apply state-specific laws, regulations, and company guidelines to ensure accurate claim handling.

Claims Resolution & Customer Service

  • Manage an assigned inventory of claims independently while maintaining quality, productivity, and service standards.
  • Provide proactive, transparent, and timely communication to customers, claimants, agents, repair facilities, and other involved parties.
  • Deliver an extraordinary customer experience by demonstrating empathy, professionalism, and ownership throughout the claims process.
  • Resolve customer concerns through effective negotiation and conflict resolution.

Collaboration & Operational Excellence

  • Partner with internal departments and external business partners to facilitate timely claim resolution.
  • Demonstrate leadership by sharing knowledge, collaborating with peers, and contributing to a positive team environment.
  • Maintain accurate claim documentation and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Continuously develop technical claims knowledge and stay current on industry trends and state regulations.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

  • 2+ years of prior claims handling experience.
  • Ability to independently manage an inventory of auto claims while making sound claims decisions.
  • Strong understanding of insurance coverage, liability investigations, and claims handling practices.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all required state adjuster licenses.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred

  • Experience investigating complex or multi-vehicle accidents.
  • Demonstrated leadership and conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience working in a customer-focused claims environment with responsibility for claim ownership from initial investigation through resolution.

Additional Information

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Periodic travel may be required.

Pay Range:

  • $57,500.00 - $79,100.00 annually + bonus

Salary is commensurate to experience, location, etc.
