Job description

The Oneida County Public Market Coordinator (OCPMC) will assist the supervisor with coordinating activities that grow the capacity of the Oneida County Public Market (OCPM) and developing new sales and marketing opportunities for farmers and small food producers in Oneida County.

The OCPMC will assist with the coordination of a more resilient food supply chain in Oneida County through the e-commerce site and the in-person farmers’ market. The individual will assist the supervisor in the coordination and implementation of activities and projects associated with the Oneida County Public Market. Activities and projects that support the OCPM will focus on sustaining and increasing market sales and in-person attendance at the market. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting with Saturday market set-up and tear down, answering questions from vendors and customers, recording data, maintaining product inventories on the e-commerce site, scheduling promotions, coordinating delivery and pickup of orders, and processing vendor payments. The Coordinator will also assist in the development of marketing and advertising campaigns for the market's programs.

    

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Associate degree and two years of transferable program experience.

  • Ability to plan and organize work responsibilities according to priorities developed with team members and immediate supervisor.
  • Ability to work with the public.
  • Communication Skills – Ability to communicate effectively, clearly, and tactfully through verbal, written and electronic methods.  Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read, and write proficiently) in English.
  • Proficiency or ability to learn and effectively use software including use of the internet and Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel). 
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience dealing with the agricultural industry while promoting community engagement.
  • Experience with and knowledge of the challenges facing agriculture locally and across New York State.

  • Position Details:

    Expected Weekly Hours: 37.5 hours per week- Onsite Position.

    Wage/Hourly: $20-$21.50 per hour

    Location: Oneida County CCE office in Oriskany, NY . No remote work available.

Program Responsibilities:

             

Program Delivery – 10%             

  • Utilize established program resources and materials in providing information and resources to program participants and/or community members.
  • Serve as a team member and cooperate with the entire Association staff to achieve Association program delivery goals.
  • Teach the existing educational program as defined.  Foster acceptance of programs, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs and consider diverse audiences.
  • May be involved in multidisciplinary team efforts to deliver program. Utilize a variety of proven educational methodologies.
  • May assist in teaching innovative educational programs.
  • May assist in multi-association team efforts to deliver program.
  • May assist in providing moderately complex nonstandard responses.
  • May assist in ensuring that program delivery is within the scope of the statewide Plan of Work.
  • Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell, or other land grant universities in a professional manner as part of program delivery.      

Administrative Responsibilities:

Direction – 5%

  • Assist the Supervisor with non-complex administrative tasks in the planning of educational programs.
  • Provide input to Supervisor to assist in planning the delivery of established educational program goals.
  • Assist with financial direction of program to include planning for program expenses and budgets as well as financial resources for program continuance and enhancement.
  • Assist in developing communication strategies for the Oneida County Public Market.
  • Assist in developing and/or enhancing/expanding relationships with volunteers, vendors, community groups, appropriate agencies, organizations, and community leaders for the public market.

Management – 5%

  • Serve as an accessible resource to OCPM constituents, assisting with follow-up on public market programs and initiatives.
  • Provide low-complexity administrative tasks in guiding the implementation of marketing strategies for the Oneida County Public Market.
  • Solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise within the program utilizing appropriate policies and procedures and with supervisor guidance as needed.

Coordination/Operation –75%

  • Coordinate OCPM program implementation efforts, planning, and activities.
  • Attend meetings as required, including but not limited to, USDA AMS Grant Management meetings, and the annual conference of the Farmers Market Federation of NY.
  • Collect, input and update data, provide reports, graphs and charts as needed.
  • Assist with OCPM set-up and tear down.
  • Draft standard and nonstandard communications, with particular emphasis on program marketing through social media, email, print and other media, requiring only occasional guidance from supervisor.
  • Travel to various locations as required.
  • Prepare and submit expense report.
  • Provide input to supervisor for budget preparation.
  • Collect evaluation data from program participants based on existing framework.
  • Collect applied research data based on existing framework.
  • Collect program needs assessment data based on existing framework.

Professional Improvement & Other Duties as Assigned – 5%

  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
  • Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and trainings as scheduled/required. 
  • Pursue personal growth through expanding personal knowledge of the total organization and through updating techniques and technical skills relating to the position.
  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Cooperative Extension programs and other duties as assigned. 
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.

  • Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
