Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Tax Preparer to support a tax resolution firm. This role is responsible for preparing, reviewing, and investigating individual and business tax filings while working closely with senior tax professionals to resolve compliance issues and support client engagements.

The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in U.S. tax preparation, enjoys investigative work, and is comfortable handling both current and prior-year tax filings.

Job responsibilities

  • Prepare and file multiple-year amended individual (Form 1040) and business income tax returns (Form 1120 and 1065), including supporting schedules and disclosures
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with IRS rules and applicable state regulations
  • Review previously filed tax returns to identify errors, omissions, or compliance gaps
  • Investigate tax filing histories as part of tax resolution cases (e.g., missing returns, discrepancies, underreporting)
  • Assist in reconstructing financial information when records are incomplete or unavailable
  • Work closely with senior tax preparers, enrolled agents, CPAs, or attorneys on resolution strategies
  • Follow firm procedures, documentation standards, and data-security policies
  • Maintain organized workpapers and supporting documentation for audits, reviews, and resolution cases

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of work experience preparing U.S. individual and/or business tax returns under a CPA firm or a tax resolution firm
  • Strong understanding of federal income tax concepts and filing requirements
  • High attention to detail and ability to investigate and reconcile discrepancies
  • Ability to manage multiple returns and deadlines
  • Hands-on experience using Drake Tax Software is a plus
  • Exposure to tax resolution work (back taxes, amended returns, compliance cleanup)
  • Experience reviewing or correcting prior-year tax filings
