Job description

What's the role?:

The HERE GIS Data Suite (HGDS) team is responsible for developing and expanding a collection of HERE's industry-leading, high-quality geospatial datasets - ready to be seamlessly integrated with GIS platforms. While the suite is primarily optimized for Esri technologies, it also supports a wide range of GIS formats to meet diverse customer needs.

HERE manages vast amounts of geospatial data in multiple internal data models and formats. The HGDS team's mission is to harmonize these datasets - mapping, modeling, and enriching them to ensure consistency, interoperability, and maximum value for GIS focused customers.

We are a remote team of passionate developers and GIS specialists, driven by collaboration, curiosity, and innovation. We value open communication, support one another, and take pride in building the newest HERE product that will power next-generation geospatial solutions.

Join us and help shape the future of the HERE GIS Data Suite - bringing clarity and consistency to complex geospatial data.

What's the Role?

  • Define and own the technical architecture and long-term strategy for GIS data pipelines, processing systems, and geospatial platforms

  • Support Solution Architects, and Engineering on all spatial data related aspects – data formats, modeling, projections, specifications, validations – to enable customer-centric solutions

  • Lead cross-team and cross-product GIS data engineering initiatives from conception through delivery

  • Drive the evaluation, selection, and adoption of new tools, technologies, and platform capabilities (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, FME Form, cloud GIS platforms)

  • Establish and enforce data engineering standards, architecture patterns, and best practices across the discipline; roll out new processes and drive buy-in from internal and external stakeholders at the right level

  • Act as the primary technical reviewer and decision-maker for complex design questions, data model changes, and platform integrations

  • Independently identify improvement and innovation opportunities and drive them into the organization, managing resistance and escalating for higher-level support when needed

  • Establish and manage cross-functional networks of SMEs to support customer data projects and facilitate bi-directional regional-to-global knowledge exchange

  • Mentor and coach engineers at Grade 7 and Grade 8, accelerating their growth and technical depth

  • Ensure scalability, reliability, and compliance of geospatial data products across all formats and delivery pipelines

Who are you?:
  • 8+ years of experience in GIS data engineering or related fields, with a demonstrated track record of technical leadership

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geoinformatics, Computer Science, Geodesy, Geography, or equivalent; advanced degree preferred.

  • Expert in ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, FME Form, ArcGIS Network Analyst, ArcPy, and cloud-based GIS platforms; familiarity with QGIS a plus

  • Deep expertise in geospatial data modeling, schema architecture, network dataset design, and cross-platform data harmonization at scale

  • Extensive knowledge of HERE databases, products, and E2E specifications; experience with process design and engineering

  • Proven ability to design and govern automated QA/QC frameworks, performance optimization strategies, and data quality standards for large, complex geospatial datasets

  • Experienced in platform architecture design, including cloud-native GIS pipelines, multi-format processing at scale, and enterprise spatial data infrastructure

  • Demonstrated ability to work with customers on complex technical data projects and provide consultancy on spatial data challenges

  • Demonstrated ability to define technical strategy, influence engineering direction, and drive alignment across engineering, product, GTM, and operations teams – without a direct management role

  • Challenger mindset: independently identifies opportunities, drives innovation, and manages organizational resistance

  • Diplomatic and persuasive: able to build consensus at multiple levels and escalate effectively when needed.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; fluent in English, additional languages a plus

  • Willingness and ability to travel
