Job description

Overview:

Are you passionate about expanding homeownership opportunities and making a meaningful impact in underserved communities? United Community is seeking a CRA Mortgage Loan Originator whose sole focus will be promoting mortgage lending to Low to Moderate Income (LMI) borrowers and geographies within our bank’s assessment areas. This role is central to our mission of fostering financial inclusion and supporting the communities we serve.

What You’ll Do:
  • Originate CRA-eligible residential mortgage loans in targeted areas.
  • Build relationships with community organizations, housing agencies, realtors, builders, and other referral sources.
  • Take mortgage applications, conduct preliminary underwriting, and manage the loan process through closing.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and the CRA Development Officer to advance community-focused lending strategies.
  • Represent the bank in community events and maintain strong relationships with local government and nonprofit organizations.
  • Contribute to the CRA strategic plan and provide insights and recommendations to the CRA Committee.
  • Ensure staff awareness and training on CRA and fair lending requirements.
  • Maintain documentation of CRA outreach and lending activities.
  • Stay current on industry trends, regulations, and best practices.
Requirements For Success:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience in financial services, lending, or community relations.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a regulated financial institution, preferably a bank.
  • Current registration with NMLS
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects and initiatives.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of CRA, Fair Lending laws, and related regulations.
  • Strong leadership and strategic planning skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to engage with executives, regulators, and community stakeholders.
  • Established network of CRA-related contacts within the bank’s footprint.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed.

  • This is a full-time, non-remote position
