Job description

About us:

Amach is an industry-leading technology driven company with headquarters located in Dublin and remote teams in UK and Europe.

Our blended teams of local and nearshore talent are optimised to deliver high quality and collaborative solutions.

Founded in 2013, Amach was created to solve a specific problem in aviation: too much complexity, too little usable intelligence. We help airlines modernise their operating model using cloud, data and Al-delivered by teams with deep aviation domain expertise.

Our goal is to maximize airlines' operational efficiency by optimizing resource use, reduce costs and increase customer experience and satisfaction.

We are seeking a Database and Reliability Engineering (DBRE) SME with MongoDB expertise to be embedded with our customer, a leading aviation operator, where you will drive critical database reliability, performance and observability initiatives across their MongoDB infrastructure. You will work closely with the customer's engineering teams to review and optimize their replica set and sharding architecture, profile and tune database performance, validate disaster recovery capabilities, and establish comprehensive observability and alerting frameworks aligned with MongoDB best practices. This is a fully remote role offering the flexibility to deliver enterprise-grade database engineering while embedded within the customer's operational environment.

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years of hands-on MongoDB administration and database reliability engineering experience in production environments
  • Deep expertise in MongoDB replica sets, sharding, backup and disaster recovery strategies, and performance optimization
  • Demonstrated experience with MongoDB profiling tools, Performance Advisor and index optimization
  • Proven ability to design and implement observability solutions, SLOs and alerting frameworks for databases
  • Strong experience with Percona tools and MongoDB ecosystem

Key responsibilities & duties include:

  • Review the customer's MongoDB replica set and sharding architecture, deliver a detailed gap analysis and risk-ranked remediation plan, and design a target- state architecture aligned with MongoDB HA best practices
  • Profile slow queries using MongoDB profiler and Performance Advisor, optimise indexes to improve query performance, and deliver an index change set with before/after benchmarks plus an index governance standard for the customer's teams
  • Validate the customer's backup and disaster recovery strategy by defining RPO and RTO requirements, executing a timed restore drill including oplog replay, and producing a signed-off DR runbook
  • Stand up comprehensive observability and SLOs for the customer's MongoDB environment, covering availability, replication lag and p95 latency metrics, wire alerts to the customer's on-call systems, and author runbooks addressing top failure modes including stepdown, oplog window collapse, stuck chunk migration and disk pressure
  • Work collaboratively with the customer's stakeholders to communicate findings, recommendations and implementation timelines throughout all phases of the engagement
  • Lead best practice reviews and knowledge transfer sessions with the customer's database and engineering teams to build internal capability

Nice to have:

  • Background in aviation, aerospace or safety-critical industries where high availability and disaster recovery are paramount
  • Experience designing failure mode runbooks and incident response procedures
  • Familiarity with cloud-based MongoDB deployments (Atlas) alongside on-premises architectures

What’s in it for you:

  • An opportunity to join a fast-growing company
  • Options for career advancement
  • Learning and development opportunities
  • Flexible working environment
  • Competitive salaries based on experience
