Chemours is seeking a Civil Structural Engineer to join our growing Engineering Technology team. This position may be based at various locations; however, proximity to a Chemours site—preferably our headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware—will enable close collaboration with partner teams. The position reports directly to the Technology Leader for Process Equipment and Rotating Machinery.
The successful candidate will join a diverse team of technical experts who provide high-value, innovative engineering solutions to Chemours’ global chemical businesses in support of research and development, plant operations, and capital projects. The role supports the structural reliability and safety of manufacturing facilities by providing guidance on the design, assessment, and maintenance of buildings, foundations, supports, and process infrastructure essential to site operations. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to ensure structural solutions meet operational, safety, and regulatory requirements, while supporting the development and continuous improvement of company standards.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Support civil/structural engineering activities in collaboration with site personnel, subject matter experts, project teams, and external partners
Perform condition assessments of structures, foundations, and infrastructure systems; document findings and recommend practical remediation actions
Execute structural analysis and evaluations for steel, concrete, masonry, and other systems in industrial environments
Develop and review designs for structural components and systems associated with maintenance, upgrades, and small to mid-sized capital projects
Contribute to incident investigations and root cause analyses involving structural or infrastructure-related issues
Assist in development of engineering documentation, specifications, and scopes of work for repair and improvement projects
The following is required for this role:
BS or MS in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
Minimum 7 years of civil/structural engineering experience, including at least 3 years in chemical, petrochemical, or similar industrial sectors
Strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards (AISC, ACI, ASCE, IBC, AASHTO, OSHA)
Solid foundation in structural analysis, materials, and design principles
Ability to travel approximately 25–30% to support site activities and perform field assessments, including climbing ladders
The following is preferred for this role:
Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure
Demonstrated experience supporting field investigations, troubleshooting, and data collection activities in operating industrial facilities
Basic knowledge of geotechnical/foundation engineering, site grading, drainage, hydrology, groundwater protection, environmental structures, underground piping systems, roadway/railway systems, loading/unloading facilities, etc.
Experience with specialized structures associated with the chemical industry (process buildings, pipe racks, tank foundations, containment areas, trenches/sumps/dikes, sewers, waste treatment facilities, outfalls, diffusers, etc.).
Proficiency with relevant structural engineering software packages
Understanding of chemical industry safety practices, risk assessment, and resilient design principles
