Circunomics is building the World's largest virtual battery recycling and second life network. Today, we manage 1.5 GWh of spent batteries and 5,000 tons of recycling capacity. We are tackling one of the largest and most profitable problems of the Circular Economy: "How to enable efficient data, material trading and recycling processes in the Circular Battery Economy?" By 2030, 11 million tonnes lithium-ion batteries will have to be recycled. The lack of standards in processes, certification, track & trace technology results in high process and transaction costs, the loss of valuable raw materials, and prevents the development of recycling and second life scenarios worth over USD 8 billion annually. Circunomics aims to (1) reduce friction, build trust between market participants and increase market transparency to achieve a positive cost-benefit ratio for the private sector; (2) achieve significant waste reduction of precious battery resources, creating a profitable battery aftermarket, and to reduce the dependency of foreign lithium and cobalt supply; and (3) enable significant product, service model and process innovations for the Circular Economy.

About Us

Circunomics GmbH was founded in 2019 and is already one of the leading companies in battery circularity. The company is based in Mainz. Founders Felix Wagner and Jan Born have set themselves the goal of establishing a circular battery economy by inspiring a movement of taking batteries from first-life in electric vehicles to second-life applications and finally recycling any remaining raw materials.  
  
The Circunomics team has developed an innovative digital marketplace where digital "circular twins" can be registered, tracked, and traded for battery packs. The company has been supported thus far by seed investors and business angels. Startup builder Next Mobility Labs, recycler TES, Orlen VC, and Dr. Peter Mertens, former Chief Technology Officer of Audi, are some key players.
  
US-based company Frost & Sullivan awarded Circunomics the 2023 Market Leadership Award. The award identified Circunomics as the best in class in the European circular marketplace for the battery trading industry.  
  
Most recently, Circunomics was awarded 2nd Best StartUp 2023 within the automotive industry by Automobilwoche.
