Job description


Our Electronic Medical Record (EMR) software, Accuro®EMR, has the largest adoption in Canada and serves thousands of providers and millions of patients. Position Summary
Our Technology department is looking for a Database Infrastructure Administrator. You will be an integral part of a small Database team who keeps our Microsoft SQL environment secure, highly available and performant. To achieve this you will collaborate with our virtualization team, system administrators, network team and other teams.

  • Strong Database Administration Skills - An excellent understanding of how to approach administration of large-scale database environment in a way that minimizes the risks of outages.


Primary Responsibilities
  • Providing database and system support for both our data center and Azure cloud-based Microsoft SQL databases.
  • Monitoring, collecting statistical information, and providing reports on capacity and system performance.
  • Planning and performing upgrades, patching, and completing database movements in a fashion that will minimize any customer impact.
  • Securing databases, and working with our security and GRC teams to confirm compliance with our desired state.
  • Taking proactive measures to keep SQL servers and databases in optimum condition.
  • Troubleshooting and solving database issues as they arise.
  • Providing after hours on-call response on an infrequent basis.
  • Some evening and weekend work will be required and will be offset with flexibility in time off.

Qualifications, Education, and Experience Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in database administration, including performance tuning and development in SQL Server.
  • A degree or diploma in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or relevant work experience.
  • Proven ability to write and maintain technical documentation.
  • Experience with administration of large numbers of large databases and DB servers.
  • Excellent understanding of SQL performance tuning, high-availability and Disaster Recovery.
  • Excellent understanding of SQL and Windows clustering.
  • Experience with Azure SQL MI.
  • Good understanding of virtualization technologies.


Additional Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience with CommVault, SolarWinds DPA, SQLSentry will be an asset.
  • Scripting and automation knowledge will be an asset.
  • Clinical healthcare experience and/or experience with Accuro will be an asset.


Compensation and Logistics
  • Base salary, variable bonus established at the corporate level, competitive benefits package.
  • Full-time, permanent.
  • No travel required.
  • Fair amount of flexibility in hours of work as long as there is overlap with other colleagues on the team who are primarily located in Calgary and Kelowna.
