About Our Family

We're a busy, warm, and driven household of four based in downtown Toronto. Both parents work from home running their own businesses, and while the days have a rhythm, they also have a healthy dose of unpredictability — an early client call here, a travel stretch there. We've learned to move with it rather than against it, and we're looking for someone who feels the same way.

Our two kids (4.5 and 9 years old) are energetic, curious, and growing fast. We're finding that this season of family life calls for a bit more flexibility and balance in how we spend our time. Each of our kids has unique needs and interests, and we're trying to be thoughtful about creating space for both. We are also very intentional about how we parent. We care deeply about raising capable, independent kids who contribute to the home, and appreciate them being guided in a caring way as they learn.

We are passionate about the food we eat — fresh, flavorful, and culturally diverse. We like to host, we love good food, and we're working toward a home that hums along even on the harder days.

This is our first time bringing someone into our home in this kind of role. We're looking for a person, not just a skill set. Trust, warmth, and integrity matter more to us than checking every box on the list below.

Who You Are

You are someone who walks into a home and immediately reads the room. On a high-pressure work day, you move quietly and efficiently, keeping things calm and on track. On a lighter day, you're present, warm, and genuinely engaged with the kids.

You're a self-starter who doesn't need to be told what needs doing, but you also take direction well and communicate openly when priorities shift. You've worked in or around households before, and you bring a level of polish and executive function that goes beyond traditional childcare. You have a genuine understanding of how to engage and guide children at different developmental stages, and you approach that with both kindness and appropriate firmness.

You thrive in a fast-paced environment without losing your grounding. Anticipating needs before they arise is second nature to you. Bonus points if you speak French or Spanish — our family values multilingual exposure for our children.

Key Responsibilities

Family Support

  • Afternoon school and activity pickups (priority)
  • Care for children at home after school: snack setup, homework transition, and supervised downtime
  • Prep backpacks, lunches, clothing, and snacks for school and activities
  • Guide children through age-appropriate chores and tasks — this is a collaborative household, not an outsourced one
  • Transport to and from after-school activities as needed
  • Provide backup childcare for school closures, sick days, etc. as needed

Meal Support

  • Prepare approximately 3 dinners per week — a mix of fully executed meals and 75–80% prepped meals ready for a parent to finish with provided recipes (collaboration and input welcome over time)
  • Prepare healthy, grab-and-go snacks for after-school activities to avoid fast food stops
  • Process and prep produce when groceries arrive (wash, chop, stock the snack drawer)
  • Prep school lunches as needed
  • Kitchen clean-up and maintenance

Household Organization & Maintenance

  • Tidy and reset the house daily: do dishes, wipe surfaces, vacuum high-traffic areas, take out trash and recycling (including breaking down boxes)
  • Create and maintain household organization systems
  • Perform seasonal clothing, décor, and bedding swaps as needed
  • Reset the home before and after family travel, including unpacking and laundry support post-trips, so they return to their normal
  • Assist with preparation for hosting events and overnight guests as needed: extra grocery runs, light food prep, prepare guest space, and logistics support for hosting
  • Organize and replenish supplies in the family vehicle as needed

Laundry & Linens

  • Wash, fold, and organize kids' laundry
  • Stain treatment (especially school uniforms), occasional ironing and steaming
  • Linen cleaning and rotation (towels and bedding)
  • Maintain clean and well-stocked laundry area; keep washer and dryer on a regular cleaning schedule

Inventory & Errands

  • Manage shared household supply list; shop for non-perishables and household goods as needed
  • Miscellaneous errands as needed: returns, dry cleaning, gift shopping, donation drop-offs
  • Organize incoming household supplies and groceries

Deep Cleaning & Special Projects

  • Periodic deep cleans: washer/dryer maintenance (priority), baseboards, fridge, and oven as needed
  • Refresh and maintain the entry/mudroom area
  • Clean humidifiers and air purifiers as needed
  • Assist with family's upcoming move (fall 2026 or 2027) and help organize the new space

Administrative & Calendar Support

  • Calendar awareness and support: track school dates, activity schedules, and special events
  • Assist with camp registrations and recurring scheduling logistics
  • Track on-the-job expenses and receipts
  • Serve as on-site contact for cleaners and tradespeople when parents are in meetings
