Job description

Would you like to design and develop secure, scalable software for complex distributed systems? In this role, you will help build a federated digital platform that connects systems across technical and organizational boundaries. Come and join us!

We are facing an exciting future with considerable growth and demanding changes, as we deliver advanced technologies and mission critical solutions for the defense and aerospace industry. Our systems provide security for people on land, at sea and in the air. Therefore, we are looking for an Advanced Software Engineer to become part of this journey and contribute to our overall purpose – securing people through advanced technology.

Your role in our team

As our new Advanced Software Engineer, you will contribute to the development of a secure, federated digital backbone across distributed environments. In this role, you will design and implement scalable software components, develop APIs and data flows, and help ensure interoperability between complex systems.

You will apply strong software engineering principles, security thinking, and analytical reasoning to support robust system design, cloud-native infrastructure, automation, and AI-enabled features. You will collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners in a dynamic, research-driven environment.

You will become part of a small but growing team focused on innovation-oriented and technically challenging projects. The team works in a dynamic, collaborative environment across multiple domains, departments, and organizational boundaries. You will join a culture that values curiosity, learning, adaptability, and knowledge sharing, with a strong focus on collaboration and exposure to diverse technical challenges.

How you will make a meaningful contribution

Your key responsibilities include:

    • Distributed Systems & Architecture: Design and implement components of a federated platform with strong requirements for scalability, resilience, and maintainability.
    • Integration & Interoperability: Develop services, APIs, and data flows connecting heterogeneous systems across organizational and technical boundaries.
    • Security Engineering: Contribute to secure system design, including multi-level security considerations, access control, and secure data exchange.
    • Automation & Platform Engineering: Build and maintain infrastructure, pipelines, and tooling to support deployment, orchestration, and lifecycle management.
    • AI & Intelligent Interfaces: Support development of AI-driven content generation and dialogue systems, enabling intuitive interaction with complex system capabilities.
    • Collaboration & Technical Contribution: Participate in design discussions, architecture reviews, and cross-disciplinary collaboration with internal teams and external partners.

Bring your world class expertise into play

You are fluent in English both in writing and verbal at a professional level. Danish is an advantage but not a requirement. Moreover, we are also looking for a new colleague with the following qualifications:

    • You have PhD or Postdoctoral experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Distributed Systems, AI/ML, Cybersecurity or a related field.
    • Strong foundation in software engineering principles, system design, and abstraction
    • Demonstrated ability to reason about complex systems and technical trade-offs
    • Experience working in collaborative, multidisciplinary environments
    • Strong communication and technical documentation skills
    • You have strong programming skills, for example Python, Java, or C++, and familiarity with cloud-native ecosystems, containers, and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes is considered an advantage.

As a person, you are highly analytical and driven by complex problem-solving, curiosity, and first-principles reasoning. You bring a research-oriented mindset, potentially shaped by experience in academic or research environments, and are motivated by exploring challenging technical domains in depth. You have a system-oriented mindset and are able to understand, design, and work with complex architectures in a structured and thoughtful way

We are an international company representing world-class expertise, delivering complex and high-tech products. We value our colleagues and our meaningful contributions to securing people through advanced technology. You will also experience that we have a strong focus on your development, teaching you useful new competences and further strengthening current ones, both professionally and personally. Our company culture is autonomous and engaging, and we acknowledge the importance of flexibility in a great working environment.

When joining Terma, we promise that you will experience: Great people, challenging tasks, world-class expertise, and meaningful contribution in your daily work.
