About the Role

Our client is an early-stage, venture-backed fintech startup on a mission to expand access to financial tools for people historically excluded from the traditional credit system. They're growing fast, capital-efficient, and looking for a Backend Engineer to help build and scale the infrastructure powering their products.

This is a high-ownership role for someone who wants to own systems end-to-end, move fast, and lean heavily into AI-assisted development to multiply their output without sacrificing quality.

What You'll Do

  • Own backend systems and infrastructure end-to-end, from design through deployment and scaling

  • Build performant, reliable APIs and services that power core financial products

  • Design and implement scalable architectures on AWS using Node (TypeScript)

  • Make pragmatic tradeoffs between speed, reliability, scalability, and maintainability

  • Ship production code frequently while maintaining high quality standards

  • Help establish technical patterns and best practices for the engineering team

  • Interface effectively with product engineers and other stakeholders

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a significant backend focus

  • Experience building and scaling production systems with Node and AWS

  • Proficiency with TypeScript strongly preferred

  • Track record of delivering reliable, performant systems at scale

  • Systems-oriented mindset with a deep focus on performance, reliability, and scalability

  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability for system outcomes

  • Comfortable thinking critically about architectural decisions and their long-term implications

  • Thrives in ambiguity and can make sound technical decisions with incomplete information

  • Self-starter who can work independently and drive projects to completion

  • Embraces AI-assisted development to accelerate output while maintaining high code quality

Compensation
