Vivante Health

Digital Health & Health Tech

The all-in-one digital solution for gut health and disease. We’re helping people feel better, while lowering their cost of care. At Vivante, we’re taking on digestive disease because an astonishing 70 million people in the US are affected—that’s twice the number with diabetes and more than many other chronic conditions combined. Unlike other chronic conditions, though, digestive diseases are often untreated or misdiagnosed...because of stigma. Over half of adults with digestive trouble admit they haven’t even consulted a provider about their symptoms. This is unfortunate because chronic digestive symptoms take a toll on home life, work performance, romance, and even simple social events. And digestive disease is expensive! For most companies, GI claims are the #2 healthcare expense, second only to cancer. Specialty drugs for inflammatory bowel disease can run $70k per year for just ONE employee. Now is the time for employers and health plans to address digestive health, while at the same time providing REAL help to the millions who are struggling and don’t know where to turn. Our all-in-one digital program, GIThrive®, empowers people—through brilliant technology and advanced science—to spend less time worrying about their digestive symptoms and more time living life. A wonderful byproduct of the GIThrive success is reduced medical and Rx drug spending for employers, health plans and individuals. Contact us for a no-cost-to-you claims analysis. You’ll be shocked at how much GI claims are costing your company. But we can help!

Position Summary

We are seeking a Data Engineering Manager to play a crucial role in leading the strategy and day-to-day execution for our data engineering organization. Your team will "own" our Data Warehouse, collaborating closely with our Data Science and Software Engineering teams to enhance our product, and support the operational data needs of our strategic Insights, Marketing, and Finance teams. Additionally, you will build and mentor a high-performing team, ensuring that our data systems and solutions align with our mission to improve healthcare outcomes.

This is a hands-on role; the ideal candidate will have high overlap with our Data Engineering toolstack (GCP, DBT, Airflow, Python) and be comfortable supporting their team via regular code reviews and contributing to the code base. This role is also highly collaborative and necessitates working closely with other Engineering teams, and fostering close partnerships with the Product, Clinical, Operations and Finance teams. Your work will empower Cylinder Health to harness the power of data for actionable insights, operational efficiency, and cutting-edge innovations in healthcare.

Why is this a great opportunity for a Data Engineering Manager?

  • Impactful Problem Domain: You’ll drive innovation by integrating and analyzing diverse datasets - including patient health records, lab results, medical claims, and population health data—to create groundbreaking insights that improve healthcare outcomes.

  • Early-Stage Influence: It’s still early enough that there are many decisions and discoveries to be made. This is your opportunity to shape the future of our data ecosystem.

  • Mission-Driven Culture: Join a team that’s passionate about improving clinical outcomes for members and advancing the field of GI health.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Data Engineering Leadership, Strategy & Execution

    • Help define and execute on a strategic vision for data engineering that aligns with business goals

    • Collaborate with Product and other stakeholders to define and prioritize the technical roadmap, ensuring alignment with business objectives

    • Drive the successful execution of data engineering projects across multiple teams, including planning, resource allocation, and project management

    • Continue to mature data engineering best practices towards test-based development and automation

  • Data Infrastructure & Engineering

    • Oversee the development and maintenance of scalable, reliable data pipelines and infrastructure

    • Ensure efficient data ingestion, transformation, and storage solutions that support analytics and machine learning models

    • Lead efforts to integrate various data systems and platforms to create a unified patient centered dataset

  • Data Governance

    • Establish and enforce best practices for data quality, privacy, security, compliance (e.g., HIPAA) and ethical data usage

    • Improve operational efficiency by ensuring a 'single source of truth' for all analytics data

Team Building & Mentorship

  • Build and grow a high-performing team of data engineers

  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and collaboration within the organization

  • Provide mentorship and clear career growth paths for team members

You’ll be a good fit if you are:

  • A Team Player: You thrive in cross-functional environments and enjoy collaborating closely with stakeholders across disciplines

  • Security-Oriented: You prioritize the stewardship of sensitive healthcare data, ensuring privacy and compliance at all times

  • Comfortable with Ambiguity: You excel in startup environments where roles and challenges evolve quickly

  • A Creative Problem Solver: You bring innovative solutions to complex problems and execute them effectively

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience (5+ years in Data or other Software Engineering with 2+ years in Data Engineering leadership roles), with a track record of successfully delivering complex software projects

  • Strong, hands-on expertise in modern data engineering tools and frameworks (e.g., DBT, Airflow, Google Cloud Platform), with a focus on scalability and operational excellence

  • Exceptional leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to motivate, mentor and inspire technical teams

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, business partners, and vendors alike

  • Experience working in a HIPAA regulated environment (or other regulated industry) and supporting data security and privacy controls

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities

  • Demonstrated experience building and supporting Data Warehouse solutions

  • Strong drive for automated testing

Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity with healthcare data standards such as FHIR, OHDSI, or similar

  • Experience in a startup environment

  • Advanced degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field
