Job description

Position Title: Head and Neck Cancers Lead
Location: Ontario (Currently Virtual)
Time Commitment: 0.5 days per week (3.75 hours/week)
Term: 2 years, with an optional 1-year renewal

Client is seeking expressions of interest from experienced specialists with a focused practice in head and neck cancers for the position of Ontario Head and Neck Cancers Lead. This strategic, part-time leadership role provides an exceptional opportunity to shape the future of cancer care in Ontario by driving provincial integration, quality improvement, and system-level planning.
Within the Cancer Care Integration and Disease Advisory Program (CI-DAP), the Lead will provide visionary clinical leadership, expert disease-site advice, and partner with stakeholders to address system gaps, optimize the patient journey, and enhance care delivery across the cancer continuumβ€”from diagnosis through treatment and follow-up.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic & Visionary Leadership
  • Identify system-level care priorities affecting patients with head and neck cancers.
  • Provide clinical guidance to align disease-site work with the Ontario Cancer Plan and broader system strategies.
  • Monitor and communicate emerging clinical practices and knowledge (horizon scanning).
2. Provincial Clinical Engagement
  • Chair the Head and Neck Cancers Advisory Committee, ensuring multidisciplinary input.
  • Engage with regional cancer programs and other disease-site entities.
  • Participate in the Ontario Cancer Leads Steering Committee to align efforts across disease sites.
3. Clinical Pathways & Quality Improvement
  • Lead development and continuous updating of clinical pathways, performance indicators, and quality initiatives.
  • Promote adoption of contemporary pathway maps across Ontario.
4. Clinical Practice Guidance
  • Collaborate with the Program in Evidence-Based Care (PEBC) to identify high-impact topics and maintain up-to-date guidance for clinical practice.
5. Disease Advisory Functions
  • Provide timely, evidence-based input on clinical, implementation, and policy issues.
  • Act as a spokesperson when needed for government, media, and stakeholder communications.
  • Champion integration efforts across phases of care, particularly the diagnostic phase.
6. Drug Advisory Committee Collaboration
  • Support provincial drug policy initiatives in coordination with the Provincial Drug Reimbursement Programs (PDRP).
  • Contribute to drug horizon scanning, policy implementation, evidence building, and adjudication processes.
Qualifications
  • Medical Doctor licensed to practice in Ontario; in good standing with CPSO
  • Minimum 5 years of experience and active, focused practice in head and neck oncology
  • Proven leadership experience at hospital, university, or system level
  • Recognized opinion leader in oncology community
  • Strong understanding of the cancer care continuum, including diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship
  • Systems thinking and strong analytical decision-making abilities
  • Proven ability to engage multidisciplinary stakeholders across care settings
  • Commitment to evidence-based medicine, patient-centered care, and system-level quality improvement
  • Strong communication and consensus-building skills
  • Demonstrated creativity or innovation (e.g., published research, Client care models)
