Medical Director – Health Department (Public Health Medical Director)
Location: Hamilton Township, New Jersey (Primarily Remote)
Contract Duration: 12 Months Contract
Contract Dates: January 1, 2027 – December 31, 2027
Workload: Approximately 10 hours per month
On-Call Requirement: 24-hour availability for public-health emergencies
Work Arrangement: Remote, with occasional required in-person meetings and activities
The Medical Director will collaborate with the Division's Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Health Officer, support disease outbreak investigations, provide medical guidance during public-health emergencies, and contribute to clinical operations, medical policies, and public-health preparedness.
This is a part-time engagement requiring approximately 10 hours per month, along with 24-hour on-call availability for public-health emergencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as Medical Director for the Township's Health Department.
- Provide medical guidance and clinical support for public-health activities.
- Act as collaborating physician for the Division's Advanced Nurse Practitioner.
- Collaborate with the Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Health Officer during disease outbreak investigations and public-health clinics.
- Provide medical services and support for both pediatric and adult populations.
- Provide 24-hour on-call guidance during public-health emergencies.
- Attend at least one in-person meeting annually and additional meetings as needed.
- Review communicable disease reports, disease trends, and disease-control activities.
- Support mass clinic planning and operations.
- Sign standing orders as necessary to support the Public Health Nursing program.
- Assist in improving disease reporting through physician-to-physician advocacy.
- Contribute to public-health preparedness planning documents and plans.
- Oversee the development of medical policies consistent with local and state codes.
- Assist in developing clinical and medical operational manuals.
- Participate in special studies of public-health problems.
- Collect or supervise the collection of specialized health data.
- Review and evaluate community health programs involving medical treatment.
- Perform additional medical duties requested by the Health Officer or Director of Nursing.
Required Qualifications
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical institution.
- Active New Jersey physician license in good standing.
- Must be legally resident in the United States.
- Qualified physician with the ability to provide services to both pediatric and adult populations.
- Ability to prescribe and dispense prescription and non-prescription medications.
- Ability to serve as collaborating physician for an Advanced Nurse Practitioner.
- Must not be listed on the State's debarred contractor or vendor list.
- Must satisfy all applicable Township and RFP requirements.
Board Certification Requirement: Board Certification in Family Medicine or Pediatrics is applicable to the position.
