Job description

Job Purpose

To proactively develop journal in order to deliver growth in terms of published content. To build relationships with authors and editors such that journal meet or exceed their published content targets. Depending on journal needs, this position might oversee 1-2 direct reports who are working on similar tasks and/or projects. Troubleshoot and display the ability to deal with difficult situations with maturity and calmness. Maintain high-quality, proactive communication and excellent relationships with a global team.

Key Accountabilities

Scope of work includes, but is not limited to, the following:

1. Manage and maintain the administrative process of a Sage journal (Sage Open) through the Sage
Track site.

2. Complete agreed number of advanced article processing tasks each month.

3. Maintain positive work relationships and top-quality communication with journal editors, authors,
reviewers, and Sage staff throughout the world.

4. Work together with various contacts in the Sage US and Sage UK Offices (i.e. editorial, marketing,
production, etc.) to utilize the Sage Track sites and facilitate the growth and progress of the
journal.

5. Hold video/audio conferences with US and UK colleagues after the usual office hours. Maintain
editorial knowledge and proficiency.

6. Maintain editorial knowledge and proficiency.

Job Functions and Responsibilities

1. Supervise 1-2 Peer Review Associates with each individual handling the workload as per the
work allocation plan.

2. Manage relationships with individual team members in a professional manner.

3. Evaluate the efficacy of processes periodically and suggest corrective action where required.

4. Complete advanced peer review tasks, such as external editor/reviewer selection and decision approvals. This position also support other work like initial manuscript editorial quality checks as needed.

5. Help enforce journal standards for ethics and research quality across a range of complex cases.

6. Keep informed of Sage Research Integrity Group guidelines and industry ethics news. Help anticipate and address ethics issues.

7. Help identify problem areas or areas of improvement for their journals and oversee
strategic plan of action to improve turnaround times and maintain quality standards.

8. Escalate process, human resource issues to the Reporting Managers in a timely manner.

Others

1. Meet or exceed the productivity standards for the SAGE Open PRA position.

2. Communicate in a professional and personable manner with editors, authors, reviewers, and other SAGE staff on any issues concerning their journal.

3. Troubleshoot issues involving the journal and/or SAGE Track site as required.

4. Closely monitor manuscript progress as manuscripts move through the various steps of the peer review process.

5. Please forward your supervisor any communications that you receive from editors/authors that are tense or volatile in nature, also, please send your supervisor any positive words and praise you receive from editors and authors.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Include, but not limited to, the following:

· Minimum of a Master’s degree or equivalent, preferably PhD.

· Excellent English verbal and written business communication skills.

· Computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power BI, Outlook, and Power Point

· Outstanding interpersonal relationship building and employee coaching and development skills.

· Knowledge of the Peer Review functions, operation and decision making, in Publishing Industry will be a must.

· Organization skills and attention to detail
