Job description

Junior Editor

Part-time ยท Remote ยท Reports to Editor Lead

Real artists. Real work. Curated with intention.

Stocksy is an artist-led stock co-operative with over 1,800 co-owner artists around the world, including photographers, videographers, and illustrators, who make work that premium brands trust. Our artists do not just contribute content; they own the company.

Our collection is growing, and so is the community of artists contributing to it. As AI makes generic imagery limitless, the advantage no longer goes to whoever has the most content. It goes to whoever delivers premium, human-made visuals that are commercially useful, emotionally real, and relevant to what buyers are actually trying to communicate.

We are looking for a Junior Editor who can judge what belongs in this collection and why. Someone with a sharp eye, a genuine instinct for quality, and the communication skills to help contributors understand the thinking behind editorial decisions.

What you'll do

  • Review and curate incoming submissions against Stocksy's editorial, technical, and commercial standards
  • Accept, decline, or return submissions with clear, well-reasoned feedback that helps contributors understand what belongs in this collection and why
  • Review submissions for legal compliance: releases, copyright, and anything that could create risk for the brands that use our work
  • Bring your editorial decisions to the team openly, discuss edge cases, and be willing to have your thinking challenged
  • Flag collection gaps, emerging trends, and editorial opportunities you are noticing across the queue
  • Support contributors in building portfolios that are stronger, more consistent, and more commercially relevant over time
  • Maintain metadata quality across reviewed assets
  • Contribute to team conversations about collection standards, review processes, and how we keep our editorial approach clear and shared

Who you are

You have a sharp editorial instinct and bring it directly to how you review submissions from our artists. You read work with a commercial eye, an awareness of current and emerging visual culture, and a clear sense of how a client could use it. That instinct is the foundation of everything in this role.

You are confident in the technical aspects of photography and ideally video too. You know the stock photography landscape, or you have spent enough time in and around visual content to understand what makes work both visually compelling and useful to a buyer. We are growing the collection, but relevance and standards come before volume. Every editorial reinforces that.

You are organized, consistent, and comfortable working independently with light supervision. At the same time, this is not a solitary role. We meet regularly to review decisions and calibrate as a team, so that our standards remain clear, shared, and consistent.

Our contributors are co-owners of this co-op, and that shapes how you engage with their work. Articulating your thinking is as important as the decision itself. We want contributors to understand your direction, not just receive it. Your feedback adds up over time, helping contributors build portfolios that are stronger, more consistent, and more commercially relevant.

You understand that the best work is made by a real person, with a real point of view, for a buyer who knows their audience will recognize the difference. You bring a critical eye that goes beyond personal taste, and you approach curation with curiosity and openness, because building a collection that reflects the full range of human experience requires it.

What you bring

  • Demonstrated experience in photo editing, curation, or a related visual content role, whether through employment, freelance, or practice as a working artist
  • A strong eye for both aesthetic and technical image quality
  • Experience giving constructive feedback to photographers or other creatives
  • Familiarity with the stock photography or visual media landscape
  • Strong attention to detail โ€” particularly around metadata, releases, and content standards
  • Ability to work independently and manage your own queue in a remote environment, with experience using project management software preferred
  • You have experience exploring how AI tools can make your curation work more efficient, whether that's research, analysis, or workflow
  • You understand that editorial judgment, taste, and an eye for what belongs in this collection can't be outsourced. You approach new tools with curiosity, not fear

What we offer

  • Base Salary: $50,000 to $60,000 per year (pro-rated to part-time), reflective of experience
  • Variable Salary: this role is eligible for a performance-based bonus each fiscal year
  • Paid Time Off: six weeks paid vacation, unlimited paid sick days, and one paid volunteer day
  • Health & Wellness: health and dental benefits, or a health spending account for team members outside Canada, a $1,000 annual education & wellness allowance, and a flexible, fully-remote workplace

The details

  • Department: Content
  • Reports to: Editor Lead
  • Direct reports: None
  • Role type: Part-time Employee (Canada) or Independent Contractor (outside of Canada)
  • Location: Remote, preferred timezones are GMT-7 to GMT-3

To apply

Please submit your resume and cover letter through our hiring portal.

Your cover letter matters to us, genuinely. We're not looking for a formal letter or a summary of your resume. We want to know why Stocksy. What is it about an artist-owned co-operative, at this particular moment, that made you stop and apply? If your path here looks unconventional, tell us that too - we're more interested in how your experience translates than whether it maps neatly to the requirements.

Stocksy supports a global membership of employees, contractors, and contributors from all walks of life. We find strength in what makes us different, and we are committed to building a diverse membership and cultivating an inclusive environment where every one of our co-op members can thrive. Experience and education come in many forms - if you're excited about this role and feel you could do your best work here, we want to hear from you.
