We're looking for a Bookkeeper with construction industry experience to support a financial services and advisory business serving small contractors across the United States. You will help clean up client books, maintain accurate financial records, and support the financial infrastructure that keeps small construction businesses running.
This is a hands-on bookkeeping role supporting clients typically under $5 million in annual revenue. Construction experience is important. You should understand job costing, WIP, retainage, and how contractor financials differ from standard small business accounting.

What You'll Work On
Bookkeeping and Record Maintenance
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for small contractor clients
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and vendor statements on a regular basis
- Categorize transactions and ensure the chart of accounts is organized and consistent
Construction-Specific Bookkeeping
- Support job costing and project-level tracking for active construction projects
- Track retainage and assist with AIA billing documentation
- Maintain work-in-progress records and flag discrepancies to the senior accountant
QuickBooks Online Management
- Enter, categorize, and reconcile transactions inside QuickBooks Online
- Assist with initial cleanup of disorganized or outdated client books
- Keep client files organized and audit-ready at all times
Reporting and Support
- Generate basic financial reports including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow summaries
- Support the senior accountant with data preparation and document organization
- Flag issues or irregularities as they arise rather than waiting for review
What You Bring
- Bookkeeping or accounting experience with a focus on or exposure to the construction industry
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, QBO certification preferred
- Familiarity with job costing, retainage, and construction billing workflows
- Strong attention to detail and organized approach to managing multiple client files
- Clear written and verbal English communication skills
- Self-directed and reliable with the ability to manage recurring tasks without close supervision
Nice to Have
- Experience working with small contractors or subcontractors under $5M in revenue
- QBO ProAdvisor certification
- Exposure to AIA billing or WIP schedule preparation
- Background working under a CPA or senior accountant in a bookkeeping or advisory firm
