Your new role

As a Senior Database Engineer (all genders), you will help ensure the stability, scalability, and security of the database platform behind our cloud communication solutions. You will work on highly available, business-critical real-time systems and contribute to the continuous evolution of our infrastructure landscape. Together with infrastructure, platform, and development teams, you will shape modern database architectures and drive automation across our environments. Your work will have direct impact on the reliability and performance experienced by hundreds of thousands of users.

The work you‘ll do

  • Design, build, and operate highly available database clusters based on MariaDB.
  • Develop and maintain backup, recovery, replication, and high-availability strategies. 
  • Analyze and optimize SQL queries, database performance, and system scalability. 
  • Automate database and infrastructure operations using tools such as Ansible or Terraform.
  • Support development teams with database architecture, data modeling, and integration topics. 
  • Operate databases in virtualized and containerized environments, including Kubernetes.
  • Implement and improve database security, compliance, and encryption standards.
  • Contribute to incident management and participate in the 24/7 on-call rotation to ensure platform stability.

The qualifications you need

  • Several years of experience administering MariaDB inhighly available production environments. 
  • Strong expertise in SQL, query optimization, and database performance tuning.
  • Experience with at least one additional relational database system, ideally PostgreSQL.
  • Good scripting and automation skills using languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation of operational processes.
  • Solid understanding of IT security, compliance, and high-availability concepts.
  • Structured and analytical mindset with a high degree of ownership and collaboration.
  • Ideally experience with Kubernetes, Linux (Debian), NoSQL technologies, or distributed systems.
