Job description

Looking for Philippines-based candidates

Job Role: Mechanical Engineer

Work Schedule: This role follows an 8-hour shift within the 7:00 AM–8:00 PM New Zealand time window (Monday to Friday) to align with support and coordination coverage during business hours.

Compensation range: Up to PHP 87,000 / Monthly

Who We Are: At Hunt St, we help Australian companies hire top remote talent in the Philippines. For this role, you will be formally employed through an Employer of Record (EOR) arrangement. We are not an outsourcing agency. All of our roles are 100% remote, so you’ll be able to work from home.

Who The Client Is: A New Zealand-based specialist metal design and fabrication company producing bespoke solutions in mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium. The company delivers end-to-end design, engineering, and fabrication services for architectural, construction, and commercial projects across New Zealand.

The business works closely with fabrication and site teams to deliver practical, buildable solutions, not just drawings. Projects include architectural metalwork, façades, custom sheet metal products, and light structural assemblies.

Role Overview: We are seeking a Design Engineer / Mechanical Engineer with strong SolidWorks and fabrication detailing experience to produce accurate, buildable engineering and shop drawing outputs for architectural metalwork projects.

This role involves translating architectural and concept drawings into practical fabrication-ready designs suitable for workshop manufacturing and site installation. The position requires practical engineering judgement, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of fabrication processes.

The successful candidate will work closely with design, engineering, project management, and fabrication teams to ensure all outputs are technically accurate, practical to manufacture, and aligned with project requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create accurate 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings in SolidWorks
  • Produce fabrication-ready shop drawings, assemblies, and BOMs for architectural metalwork projects
  • Translate architectural and engineering drawings into practical fabrication details
  • Design and detail components using mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium
  • Apply practical fabrication knowledge to cutting, folding, welding, assembly, and installation requirements
  • Identify and resolve design clashes, dimensional issues, and constructability risks before production
  • Coordinate closely with project managers, fabrication teams, and site teams to ensure technical accuracy and buildability
  • Maintain organised and accurate project documentation
  • Support projects during fabrication and installation, assisting with issue resolution when required
  • Contribute to internal design reviews and QA processes

Requirements

  • Strong SolidWorks experience
  • Experience in fabrication, sheet metal, construction, architectural metalwork, or similar practical design environments
  • Good understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify issues before they reach production
  • Ability to work with incomplete or evolving information and proactively resolve problems
  • Practical mindset with focus on buildability and real-world outcomes
  • Good communication and coordination skills across design, production, and project teams
  • Reliable, organised, and takes ownership of their work

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, Architecture, or related field
  • Experience producing fabrication/shop drawings for custom metalwork or construction projects
  • Experience working with architectural or construction documentation

Work Arrangement & Expectations:

This is a remote role that will be set up via an Employer of Record (EOR) service.

To ensure alignment and transparency, successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Disclose any existing ongoing roles or client work
  • Reflect this engagement on their LinkedIn profile
