Responsibilities

  • Assess provider documentation and coding competency to identify improvement opportunities and drive clinical and financial outcomes; develop and deliver training on coding processes; ensure compliance and revenue integrity in light of regulatory changes
  • Serve as subject matter expert for providers and coders; provide guidance on issues encountered in daily account processing
  • Establish and coordinate internal quality review processes and corresponding training for providers and coders; evaluate documentation for clarity, completeness and consistency to support optimal code selection
  • Perform provider documentation audits to identify opportunities or risks; develop provider education based on findings; communicate clearly with coding and corporate responsibility about education and directions

Job Summary:

Develops and coordinates the delivery of coding educational programs. Promotes consistency and accuracy of coding and documentation practices. Acts as a liaison for coding questions and concerns between providers, coding, corporate responsibilities, and educational departments.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drives optimal clinical and financial outcomes through thorough assessment of provider documentation and coding competency, identification of improvement opportunities. Develops and delivers training and education of all coding processes. Stays abreast of regulatory changes and works with leadership to ensure compliance and revenue integrity.
  • Act as subject matter expert for providers and coders while providing guidance and clarification on issues which present in their daily account processing.
  • Establishes and coordinates internal quality review processes and corresponding training for providers and coders.
  • Evaluates provider documentation for clarity, completeness and consistency to ensure optimal code selection. Provides education to providers on coding guidelines, practices and documentation techniques.
  • Performs audits of provider documentation to identify opportunities or risks. Develops provider education based on findings and needs.
  • Maintains clear and consistent communication with coding and corporate responsibility around education and directions provided to both providers and coders.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare or related field, or equivalent years of experience and education

  • Three years' experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Rare climbing.
