Job description

SUMMARY:

Within Cigna Pharmacy Management, the Pharmacy Account Executive acts as the primary expert on pharmacy benefits for Cigna Pharmacy clients in the market segment of clients with up to 3,000 employees. The designated book of business is in the South Texas (primarily Houston) market.

The Pharmacy Account Executive position involves building and maintaining working relationships with internal stakeholders, clients, brokers, and consultants. The role supports Medical Sales teams through client retention and growth strategies for Cigna Pharmacy Management and provides expertise in implementation, reporting, and daily service operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and support client persistency for a designated book of business in the South Texas (primarily Houston) market.

  • Serve as the pharmacy subject matter expert (SME) for the Medical Sales organization, providing ongoing education and advancing pharmacy knowledge through training initiatives.

  • Participate in client engagements to review performance metrics and present a comprehensive suite of pharmacy management solutions aligned to reducing total healthcare costs.

  • Identify and drive opportunities to enhance pharmacy earnings contributions through strong client relationships and strategic collaboration with Medical Sales partners.

  • Partner cross-functionally with Medical Sales, underwriting, and key stakeholders to support pricing, renewal strategies, and competitive positioning to retain and grow business.

  • Coordinate external messaging related to pharmacy programs, collaborating with operational and support teams to ensure alignment.

  • Lead or support client and broker meetings, including service issue resolution discussions and acting as an escalation point for pharmacy-related concerns.

  • Participate in finalist presentations for new and existing business opportunities as needed.

  • Analyze pharmacy utilization trends to provide consultative recommendations and address client follow-up questions.

  • Build a deep understanding of client needs, goals, and objectives to deliver tailored solutions.

  • Provide pricing, audit, and contract support to clients and internal partners.

  • Interpret and communicate pharmacy coverage policies in collaboration with clinical partners.

  • Perform additional duties as needed to support client satisfaction and business objectives.

IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE A COMBINATION OF THE FOLLOWING:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred

  • 5 years or more of Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) / consulting experience supporting client expectations

  • Experience with consultative client management methodologies

  • Proven ability to manage a renewal independently with minimal supervision

  • Ability to navigate and leverage the broader organization to better support clients

  • A self-motivated individual displaying ownership, flexibility, accountability and responsibility

  • Operational understanding and competence with the PBM business model

  • Understanding the financial and pricing strategy of PBM

  • Excellent verbal and writing communication skills

  • Excellent presentation skills in group settings

  • Technical skills using all Microsoft programs

  • Residence in the Houston, TX area

  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time depending on candidate’s location with little or no advance notice
