Job description

This is a remote position.

Virtual Rockstar is hiring a full-time Medical Billing & Insurance Virtual Assistant on behalf of a growing physical therapy practice.

This role is focused on supporting the clinic’s billing and insurance operations, including insurance verification, claim follow-ups, denials, patient billing concerns, and coordination with the internal team using Athelas and other systems.

This is an ideal role for someone with a strong medical billing background, excellent English communication skills, and confidence handling both insurance-related workflows and patient-facing billing conversations.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Billing & Claims Support

  • Assist with billing workflows using Athelas and internal systems

  • Review and follow up on unpaid or denied claims

  • Communicate with insurance companies regarding claim status and discrepancies

  • Support resolution of billing-related issues and denials

  • Maintain accurate billing documentation and records

Insurance Verification & Authorization Support

  • Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits

  • Update patient insurance information accurately in systems

  • Coordinate with insurance providers to clarify coverage and billing details

  • Assist with authorization-related follow-ups as needed


Patient Billing Support

  • Handle patient billing inquiries professionally and empathetically

  • Assist patients with billing concerns and payment-related questions

  • Communicate clearly regarding balances, insurance coverage, and claim updates

  • Help de-escalate patient frustrations related to billing issues


Administrative & Team Support

  • Collaborate closely with the billing and administrative team

  • Maintain organized records and documentation

  • Assist with additional administrative tasks related to billing operations


Tools & Systems

  • Athelas

  • Insurance portals and payer systems

  • EMR / Billing software

  • Phone, email, and communication platforms



Requirements

  • Experience in medical billing and insurance workflows

  • Strong understanding of insurance verification, denials, and claims follow-up

  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail

  • Ability to multitask and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment
