Entertainment Lighting Systems Designer

Location: Midwest (confidential)

Theater Outsource is partnering with a well-established company in the entertainment technology space to bring on an Entertainment Lighting Systems Designer.

This is a hands-on design role focused on taking projects from concept through fully documented system layouts — working closely with project managers, engineers, and customers to deliver high-performance lighting systems across theaters, venues, and architectural environments.

If you understand how to turn design intent into a working system using lighting controls and infrastructure — this is your lane.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop complete lighting system designs from bid documents through submittals
  • Translate control intent into fully functional, documented systems
  • Coordinate with PMs, engineers, drafting, and product teams
  • Review bid packages and quoted materials for accuracy and compatibility
  • Identify and resolve inconsistencies in project documentation
  • Ensure system designs meet customer requirements and performance expectations
  • Provide feedback to internal teams to improve system design and quoting processes
  • Communicate directly with dealers, reps, consultants, and customers
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of lighting systems, controls, and product offerings

What We’re Looking For

  • 4–6+ years of experience in lighting systems design or related field
  • Strong knowledge of entertainment lighting systems and controls
  • Experience with electrical systems, control systems (digital/analog), and system layouts
  • Ability to interpret and execute design intent into working systems
  • Strong communication skills — able to explain technical concepts clearly
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities independently
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills

Preferred Background

  • Experience working with lighting manufacturers, integrators, or consultants
  • Familiarity with submittals, system documentation, and design workflows
  • Exposure to theatrical, architectural, or venue-based lighting systems
