Location: 100% Remote (Candidates can work from anywhere in LATAM Countries)

Role Summary

We are seeking a Senior Shopify Backend Developer with deep expertise in building, scaling, and integrating Shopify-based eCommerce platforms. This role will focus on backend development, custom Shopify applications, integrations with enterprise systems, and performance optimization for high-traffic, conversion-driven eCommerce experiences.

The ideal candidate brings strong Shopify Plus experience, modern backend engineering skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with product, UX, and frontend teams in a distributed, near-shore environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain custom Shopify applications, backend services, and APIs.
• Build and support Shopify Plus solutions including checkout customization, order workflows, and admin extensions.
• Develop and maintain integrations with:
• ERP systems (SAP, NetSuite, etc.)
• CDP, CRM, and marketing platforms (Adobe, Salesforce, etc.)
• Payment gateways, OMS, WMS, and 3rd-party vendors
• Implement secure, scalable backend solutions using Node.js, Ruby, or similar backend frameworks.
• Optimize application performance, reliability, and scalability to support high-volume traffic and transactions.
• Ensure best practices for security, data privacy, and PCI compliance.
• Collaborate closely with frontend engineers, product managers, QA, and DevOps teams.
• Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical documentation.
• Support production releases, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional backend or full-stack development experience.
• 7+ years hands-on experience with Shopify / Shopify Plus backend development.

Strong experience with:

• Shopify APIs (Admin, Storefront, GraphQL, REST)
• Custom Shopify apps (public and private)
• Webhooks and event-driven architectures
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Strong knowledge of:
• API design and integration patterns
• Data modeling and relational/non-relational databases
• CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows
• Ability to work overlapping US business hours and communicate clearly in English.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting headless commerce or composable architectures.
• Familiarity with checkout extensibility, Shopify Functions, and custom payment flows.
• Experience with Adobe CDP, analytics, or personalization platforms.
• Background working in B2C, DTC, or omnichannel retail environments.
• Prior experience in nearshore delivery models or global distributed teams.
