Overview
We are seeking a contract Software Engineer / Systems Integrator to build a secure web portal that allows healthcare intake staff to verify Veteran eligibility and retrieve clinical records from federal VA systems in real time — reducing a multi-week manual process to under 30 minutes. Roles & Responsibilities
Build a secure, responsive intake portal for clinical staff with real-time Veteran search and eligibility retrieval
Integrate with VA Lighthouse APIs (Veteran Verification API and Health API, production tier)
Implement MuleSoft as the API orchestration layer between the portal and VA federal endpoints
Integrate State SSO (Ping Identity) for authentication; broker State credentials to VA federal security tokens
Transform FHIR/JSON health data into human-readable formats for clinical staff
Implement HIPAA/CJIS-compliant audit logging and zero-trust security (TLS 1.2+, no persistent PHI/PII)
Deploy on existing Client-managed AWS or GCP environment
Participate in UAT sessions with clinical SMEs and deliver technical documentation
