  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for patients prior to appointments and obtain prior authorizations as needed.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret CPT codes, authorization requirements, and payer information to assess eligibility and support approvals while preventing claim denials.
  • Enter, update, and maintain accurate patient and insurance details in the practice management system, and input data into Phreesia and Allscripts EHR.
  • Communicate with patients and the billing department to clarify discrepancies, explain coverage, address questions about insurance, and ensure HIPAA compliance.

We are a leading neurology practice dedicated to providing exceptional care for patients withneurological conditions. Renowned for our commitment to patient-centered innovation andcollaboration, we are seeking a meticulous and patient-focused Insurance Verification Specialistto support our team.

Job Summary:
The Neurology Patient Insurance Verification Specialist will primarily be responsible for confirming the accuracy of patient insurance information, verification of benefits, interpreting benefits in terms of the practice's neurology services (such as EMG/NCV, EEGs, Office BasedE/M Codes), and ensuring all necessary documentation is collected for billing. This role is criticalin our commitment to providing seamless neurology care and minimizing delays in treatment.

Responsibilities:
1. Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for all patients prior to their appointments.
2. Proficient in reading, analyzing, and interpreting CPT codes, authorization requirements, and related payer information to assess eligibility, secure approvals (including prior authorizations for neurology-specific procedures), and prevent claim denials.
3. Enter, update, and maintain accurate patient and insurance details in the practice management system.
4. Communicate with patients to clarify discrepancies in the insurance information and to explain their insurance coverage as it pertains to our neurology services.
5. Collaborate with the billing department to address any issues that may affect the billing process.
6. Work closely with insurance providers to resolve issues and gather information.
7. Assist patients with questions regarding their insurance coverage and out-of-pocket costs.
8. Maintain compliance with HIPAA and other federal/state regulations related to patient information and privacy.
9. Enter patient information into both Phreesia and Allscripts EHR.
10. Miscellaneous billing tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:
1. At least 1 year of experience in healthcare insurance verification, medical billing, or arelated role; experience in a neurology or specialty practice preferred.
2. Familiarity with medical terminology, CPT, and ICD-10 codes, including those specific toneurology (e.g., for diagnostic testing and procedures).
3. Proficiency with practice management software and electronic health records (EHR). Wecurrently use Allscripts (Veradigm) EMR system.
4. Strong knowledge of insurance processes, including understanding of different types ofinsurance plans (PPO, HMO, EPO, Medicaid/Medicare, etc.) and medical billing practices,with an emphasis on specialty care requirements.
