Requirements:

  • Ensure compliance with international maritime conventions and codes (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, ISM, ISPS, MLC) and monitor flag state, port state and other regulations; communicate requirements to stakeholders.
  • Support vessel crews and shore-based teams with regulatory guidance and best practices.
  • Investigate non-conformities and regulatory deficiencies; prepare reports and corrective action plans; liaise with flag administrations, classification societies and auditors.
  • Maintain and update compliance documentation, manuals and records; contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the Safety Management System (SMS); deliver compliance training as required.

To support our Marine QHSSE Department from Aalst, we are looking for a Marine Compliance Officer.

What you’ll do:

As Marine Compliance Officer you are co-responsible for ensuring that our fleet complies with applicable international, national, and company regulatory requirements.

This role supports safe, environmentally responsible, and legally compliant vessel operations through monitoring, advisory support and continuous improvement of compliance systems.

You will work within the Marine Compliance Team where following responsibilities are shared with other colleagues:

 

  • Ensure compliance with international maritime conventions and codes, including but not limited to SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, ISM, ISPS and MLC.
  • Monitor and interpret flag state, port state and other relevant regulations and communicate requirements to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support vessel crews and shore-based teams with regulatory guidance and best practices.
  • Investigate non-conformities, and regulatory deficiencies; prepare reports and corrective action plans.
  • Liaise with flag administrations, classification societies and internal or external auditors.
  • Maintain and update compliance documentation, manuals, and records.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Deliver compliance training and awareness programs as required.

What do you need?

 

  • A degree in Nautical Sciences or equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge of international maritime regulations and industry standards.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and sound judgment.
  • Diplomatic skills and work integrity.
  • Written and verbal communication skills (English/Dutch/French).
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficient in MS Office.

You will work in our office in Aalst and can make short trips abroad in case required.
