Job description

About us:

At Amber, we're always on the hunt for the most talented individuals in the industry to join our team. We're dedicated to delivering top-notch service to our customers and know that our employees are key to making that happen. We offer attractive compensation packages and plenty of chances to grow with us, and we're always on the lookout for ways to do things better. Our team works together towards common goals and we value each member's contributions to our mission of continuous improvement and innovation.

About the role:

Amber is looking for a UX Designer to help bring a high-quality AA Unreal Engine 5 game to a cloud streaming platform. It's a large narrative game, built on one of the most recognized entertainment franchises.

The story and content are locked. Your job is to adapt UX/UI and controls. The goal is a game that's easy to pick up and keeps its pacing. The core direction is only prototyped, and many open problems remain. You'll work alongside UX designers, engineers, tech artists, QAs, and producers. This is a hands-on role: mapping, wireframes, and specs, delivered at volume and largely on your own.

This is a remote contract engagement, expected to run about 2 months, with a possible extension. You'll need to be productive within your first week. Preferred working hours are 7am-4pm Mexico City time. European candidates should overlap with a minimum of 7am-12pm Mexico City time.

What to expect from the process:

  • Profile Preselection: Our Talent Acquisition team will review your profile.

  • Talent Acquisition Screening: Selected candidates will be contacted to undergo an initial interview to discuss their experience, skills, and fit for the role.

  • Test: Qualified candidates will be invited to complete an assessment to demonstrate their abilities.

  • Interviews: Finalists will participate in technical and cultural interviews to assess their proficiency and compatibility with our team.

The quest (what you will do):

  • Map every interaction in the game to a touch controller.

  • Design controller layouts, prompts, and accessibility options in Figma.

  • Build onboarding that teaches the controls to players new to games.

  • Define system flows, such as settings, pause, and disconnect.

  • Write implementation specs for engineering. Run consistency passes across the full game.

  • Turn playtest findings into design changes.

  • Flag usability risks early. Present options backed by evidence.

The skills (required qualifications):

  • At least 5 years as a UX designer in games, with at least one shipped game.

  • A portfolio that shows game UX work, such as player flows, wireframes, and interaction specs.

  • Proven experience designing touch controls for games.

  • Experience designing game UX, preferably for console or TV.

  • Onboarding design for casual players.

  • Strong Figma skills, including wireframes.

  • Working knowledge of game accessibility practices, especially input simplification and alternative controls.

  • Comfortable making decisions with incomplete information.

  • Clear communication in English, spoken and written.

Nice to have:

  • Second-screen or phone-as-controller UX.

  • Cloud gaming projects, or input design that holds up under latency.

  • Work on narrative or cinematic games.

  • Designing to platform requirements, such as console certification rules.

  • Motion controls or haptics design.

The Reward:

  • A fun and dynamic industry where you can make a difference.

  • Professional and friendly work environment.

  • Awesome and talented colleagues.

  • Support from all your teammates.
