Architectural AutoCAD Drafter (Part Time, New York)
Can you turn a set of field measurements into clean, accurate as-builts, and then carry that same project all the way to a permit-ready set? Do you think in feet and inches, understand how a wood-framed house goes together, and take pride in drawings that leave no room for guesswork? One of our New York-based clients is looking for an Architectural AutoCAD Drafter to independently manage small residential projects from existing conditions through permit sets. This is a flexible, part-time role of roughly half-time hours, with workload that can ramp up during busy periods and slow down between projects.
BetterPros unlocks human potential by offering competitive compensation, flexibility, constant learning and growth, and the opportunity to work anywhere you want with one of our +130 active clients across the United States.
What you’ll do:
Translate on-site measurements provided by the architect into accurate as-built drawings of existing conditions.
Develop proposed floor plans, elevations, and sections for small residential renovation and addition projects.
Incorporate the architect’s markups and annotations to produce complete, code-ready permit sets.
Draft wood frame construction details, wall sections, and framing plans with a clear understanding of how residential buildings are built.
Work in imperial units (feet and inches) across all drawings and documentation.
Take ownership of the drawing process on each project, from as-builts through permit submission, while the architect remains the main point of contact with clients.
Manage revisions efficiently and keep drawing sets organized, consistent, and up to date.
Adapt to a variable workload, scaling up during peak periods and supporting multiple projects as they come in.
What you must have:
Degree in Architecture, or equivalent technical background with a strong residential drafting track record.
Advanced English level, both written and spoken.
Minimum 3 years of architectural drafting experience on U.S. residential projects.
Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD.
Solid understanding of wood frame construction.
Comfort working in feet and inches rather than metric.
Proven ability to independently produce as-builts, proposed plans and elevations, and permit sets.
Flexibility to adjust availability to a fluctuating workload.
A disciplined, responsible, and eager-to-learn mindset.
A great plus:
Experience with New York residential projects, building codes, and permit submission requirements, or demonstrated ability to climb a steep code curve fast on previous projects.
Experience with renovations, additions, and alterations to existing homes.
Proficiency in Revit, SketchUp, or other 3D modeling tools.
Knowledge of residential building systems and how they affect plans and details.
Experience working directly with a small architecture practice or sole practitioner.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to anticipate what a reviewer or contractor will need to see on a set.
We’ve got the opportunity, you’ve got the talent. We want to hear from you! Apply now.
