Mechanical & Plumbing Engineer (Full Time, Colorado)
Are you a hands-on Mechanical & Plumbing engineer who’s just as comfortable drafting a clean set of construction drawings as you are selecting the right equipment for the job? Do you believe a school should breathe easily, a fire station should run without a hiccup, and every pipe and duct should land exactly where the drawings say it will? One of our Colorado-based clients is looking for a Full-Time Mechanical & Plumbing Engineer to join their team as a true support member, handling technical MP drafting and a wide range of MP design tasks on mid-sized U.S. commercial construction projects.
BetterPros unlocks human potential by offering competitive compensation, flexibility, constant learning and growth, and the opportunity to work anywhere you want with one of our +130 active clients across the United States.
What you’ll do:
Mechanical: perform heating and cooling load calculations, select and size HVAC equipment, and design ductwork, air distribution, and ventilation systems for commercial buildings.
Plumbing: perform fixture unit calculations and design domestic water, sanitary waste, vent, and storm drainage systems. Size and select water heaters, pumps, and related equipment.
Conduct mechanical systems analysis to compare options and recommend efficient, code-compliant solutions.
Produce complete MP construction drawings: floor plans by discipline, equipment schedules, riser diagrams, sections, and key details.
Support senior engineers across a variety of design tasks, from early concepts through Construction Documents.
Coordinate MP systems with architectural, structural, and electrical disciplines to resolve conflicts before they reach the field.
Produce energy code compliance documentation.
Respond to construction-phase RFIs and submittal reviews.
Maintain disciplined file management, naming conventions, and revision tracking according to company standards.
What you must have:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering — or equivalent technical background with a strong commercial MP track record.
Advanced English level, both written and spoken.
Proven experience creating U.S. commercial construction drawings.
Proven experience in mechanical systems selection and analysis.
Minimum 3 years of Mechanical & Plumbing design and drafting experience on commercial projects.
Working knowledge of U.S. codes and standards, including IMC, IPC, and ASHRAE.
Mechanical analysis: Trane Trace 3D Plus, Carrier HAP, or your preferred equivalent.
Drawing production: Revit MEP, AutoCAD MEP.
Disciplined file management and willingness to follow drawing standards exactly.
A disciplined, responsible, and eager-to-learn mindset.
A great plus:
Experience with schools, fire stations, or multi-family housing projects.
Familiarity with Colorado building codes and local amendments, or demonstrated ability to climb a steep code curve fast on previous projects.
Experience with energy modeling and high-efficiency systems such as VRF, DOAS, or geothermal.
Experience with vehicle exhaust, specialty ventilation, or decontamination systems for public safety facilities.
Knowledge of Revit families, BIM coordination, and clash detection workflows.
LEED or other green-building documentation experience.
We've got the opportunity, you've got the talent. We want to hear from you! Apply now.
