The role supports preventive maintenance, network construction, service activation, field engineering, and 24/7 outage restoration across outside plant, hub, transport, and customer-premises environments. The technician applies safe work practices, maintains accurate records and inventories, coordinates with internal teams and contractors, and delivers reliable network performance and customer service.

Responsibilities:

How can you add value?

  • Install, commission, configure, and troubleshoot active and passive fiber equipment, including lasers, optical transmitters and receivers, EDFAs, WDM devices, couplers, splitters, power supplies, batteries, media converters, ONTs, GPON equipment, and advanced optical transport devices.
  • Calculate optical power budgets and fiber losses; verify transmit and receive levels; perform insertion-loss, reflectance, continuity, battery-load, standby-operation, and other required performance tests.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and corrective repair at hubs, fiber distribution hubs, optical transport sites, cabinets, enclosures, and outside plant facilities.
  • Activate and support residential, business, and advanced services, including dedicated point-to-point circuits, virtual fiber circuits, GPON solutions, Fiber on Demand, transport rings, and on-premises links with defined service-level requirements.
  • Coordinate with the Network Operations Center, head-end personnel, business technical support, network administration, voice administration, construction, design, and field leadership to provision, activate, turn up, and restore services.
  • Perform field engineering activities, including site assessment, route and equipment-location validation, constructability review, field markups, and recommended revisions to strand and design maps.
  • Prepare or validate work prints, job-cost estimates, bills of material, restoration plans, as-built information, test results, outage records, and other required operational documentation.
  • Monitor contractor work from assignment through completion; verify progress, workmanship, materials, compliance with company specifications, and supporting documentation for invoice processing.
  • Install temporary repairs on backbone, distribution, access, and drop fiber facilities and complete permanent restoration within established timeframes and quality standards.
  • Operate bucket trucks, aerial-lift devices, ladders, and approved tools; climb poles, towers, and structures as required and in accordance with company safety procedures.
  • Maintain assigned vehicle, tools, test equipment, materials, and daily inventory in serviceable condition; promptly report shortages, damage, or calibration needs.
  • Participate in standby rotation and respond to outages, emergencies, and disaster-recovery assignments on a 24/7 basis, including travel across the operating system as business needs require.
  • Use required personal protective equipment and perform all work in compliance with company standards and applicable electrical, safety, traffic-control, and telecommunications requirements.
  • Demonstrate the Customer First philosophy and comply with the Liberty Latin America Code of Conduct, company policies, safety standards, and procedures.
  • Perform other duties assigned to support network reliability and business operations.
