Overview:

What's The Role

Provide Tier 2 technical support in the local Business unit in the Mobile Services Network through the resolution of faults and failures in the power, transmission and RBS network and support the integration of new network elements into production.

Responsibilities:

 What You'll Do

  • Responsible for the operation and maintenance of all RBS, Power and Transmission equipment within a specific region, to ensure 100% availability of all Radio Base Stations ensuring efficiency, availability and timely delivery of high-quality telecommunication services to customers.
  • Responsible for conducting field and remote investigations including coordinating with cross-functional teams and vendors to ensure seamless service delivery, minimising customer impact, maintaining network integrity, and supporting the successful deployment of new features on the mobile network.
  • Maintenance of RBS equipment and associated modules to ensure full functionality and operation to provide high quality service to customers.
  • Perform routine checks on standby generators as per WFM Mobile Maintenance Survey, rectifiers and batteries and engage other stakeholders and commercial power companies for identified anomalies not in scope.
  • Maintenance of microwave and fiber optic transmission equipment excluding backhauls such that KPIs are within threshold and service or revenue are not impacted.
  • Support the Facilities in the site acquisition process for new sites.
  • Perform site acceptance for new RBS nodes and support site acceptance of core nodes integrated into the network.
  • Support the Optimization team by site visits requests and identification of interference impacting customers service.
  • Support the RAN Engineering team to perform sites upgrades and updates to keep systems software current and integrate new features.
  • Monitor the regional VAS platforms and analyse KPIs in order to evaluate system utilization, performance and adequacy and fix issues or engage the responsible stakeholders for resolution.
  • Provide Tier 2 technical support in the Technology Networks locally to detect and resolve faults and failures by:
  • Analysing mobile network related reports/fault tickets from authorized sources and apply all standard fault handling procedures until resolution is achieved.
  • Analysing mobile alarms/logs detected or escalated from tier 1 and applying appropriate fault resolution processes as prescribed.
  • Testing and troubleshooting all mobile nodes in conjunction with other Platforms and Service Delivery teams to locate and correct software, hardware and electrical/electronic failures in the mobile.
  • Develop and Implement performance enhancement methods and procedures and support system expansions and augmentations to maintain a high standard of system reliability and keep pace with business growth.
  •  Perform general site maintenance and inspection and engage relevant support personnel for bushing, insect/rodent eradication, access road, as well as tower, site lighting, security and perimeter fencing issues.
  •  Critically assess system software and hardware upgrades and enhancements recommended by suppliers and Engineering team, ensuring minimal effects on service delivery while adhering to agreed Service Level Agreements.
  • Prepare technical reports and analysis of site performance and site maintenance periodically as required.
  • Maintain currency of systems security updates to mitigate any attack or service and revenue impact.
  • Plan and execute planned activities in scheduled maintenance window according to change management policy
  • Liaise with and support vendors to ensure full systems functionality and escalate where necessary.

Qualifications:

Knowledge & Experience

  • Degree in Telecommunications, Electronics, Computer Science or equivalent qualifications
  • At least five (5) years’ working experience in the maintenance of mobile telecommunications equipment, mainly; Operation and maintenance of Microwave transmission systems.
  • Detailed working knowledge of traditional, emerging and converged Telecommunications Technology Systems such as Mobile 3G/4G/5G Networks, Voice over LTE (VoLTE), Voice over WIFI (VoWIFI), VoIP, Optical & Microwave Systems, IP & Data.
  • Power system maintenance and operation.
  • Excellent command of English language.
  • Strong resolution and analytical skills
  • Effective Time Management Skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments.
  • Must be computer literate with some ability in the use of MS Office
