Job description

Mission — Why We Need You

Continuum is where Continuous is building the future of intelligent automation, and the team is leaning hard into the next level of AI technology and the gains it brings to engineering. As our Staff Engineer, Continuum, you'll help to set the bar for what senior technical leadership looks like here. Continuum's engineers are strong, and we want to raise the ceiling for everyone: this role exists to model the hands-on depth, initiative, and influence that turn great engineers into true force multipliers.

At Continuous, we make complex simple for financial institutions, and we need someone who can do the same for the Continuum platform and the engineers who build it. You'll go deep on the platform, build the frameworks and patterns the team relies on, push the edge of applied AI in your daily work, and be the person Continuum turns to for its hardest hands-on problems. You'll lead through expertise and example rather than a reporting line.

Objectives — The Problems You'll Solve

You'll join the Continuum team as one of our most senior hands-on individual contributors, reporting to the Engineering Manager and working as a peer to our Technical Leads and Architects. You'll own six areas: hands-on technical leadership, extensible frameworks and patterns, applied AI, architectural partnership, engineering rigor and mentorship, and security.

Hands-on technical leadership. You'll drive Continuum's most complex, highest-value work and serve as the escalation point for its hardest problems. When work depends on or affects peripheral teams, you'll reach out and coordinate, but your focus and impact live with Continuum.

Extensible frameworks and patterns. You'll design and build the frameworks, patterns, and reference implementations the team adopts and builds on, across a stack of TypeScript, C# (.NET), micro frontends, and microservices running on AWS (ECS, Postgres, SQS, S3).

Applied AI. You'll use cutting-edge AI programs, patterns, and applications in your daily engineering, track emerging AI and platform technologies, and bring the most valuable ones into practice across the team.

Architectural partnership. You'll partner with Architects and the Chief Architect to turn architectural direction into working, extensible reality within Continuum.

Engineering rigor and mentorship. You'll set the standard for code quality, testing, and engineering rigor, and keep the team's best patterns documented and reusable.

Security. You'll support Continuous' SOC 2 security program in everything you design and build.

Day to day, you'll work alongside Continuum's Technical Leads, individual contributors, Architects, and the Chief Architect, plus peripheral teams as the work requires.

How You'll Get There

In your first 6 weeks, build deep understanding of Continuum and earn the team's trust:

  • Learn Continuum's architecture, codebase, and AI patterns end to end
  • Get productive across the stack and ship your first meaningful contributions
  • Build working relationships with the Engineering Manager, Technical Leads, Architects, the Chief Architect, and the engineers you'll work alongside
  • Form your own view of where the platform and the team's practices have the most room to grow

In your first 3 months, take ownership of hard problems and start closing gaps:

  • Own a piece of Continuum's most complex work from design through production
  • Raise the first gaps you've identified, propose improvements, and organize action with current technical leadership
  • Introduce new AI tools, research, or patterns into the team's daily engineering without waiting to be asked
  • Publish your first reusable framework, pattern, or reference implementation

Within 9 months, operate as Continuum's go-to technical force multiplier:

  • Be recognized as the escalation point for Continuum's hardest hands-on problems
  • Have frameworks and patterns you built in active use across the team
  • Show visible lift in the team's applied-AI capability and engineering rigor
  • Run a repeatable loop of spotting gaps, raising them, and driving improvements with Technical Leads and ICs

Competencies — What We're Looking For

Technical Craft — Exceptional hands-on mastery and the ability to learn new technologies fast. Breadth and judgment matter more than any single language, and your work is production-grade, not prototype.

Self-Directed AI Drive — You don't wait for permission to explore. Curiosity about AI research and emerging patterns comes naturally, and you turn what you learn into working practice.

Systems Thinking — You build extensible things other engineers rely on, and you spot patterns across systems others treat as unrelated.

Leadership Through Influence — You see gaps, name them clearly, and rally Technical Leads and ICs around fixing them. You lead by expertise, trust, and example.

Ownership and Accountability — You own hard outcomes end to end, including ambiguous, novel AI problems, and de-risk them through direct implementation and rigorous validation.

Developing People and Culture — You grow the engineers around you, sharing knowledge generously and lifting the team's craft by example.

Clear Communication — You're a clear, persuasive communicator who can explain technical direction to engineers, architects, and peripheral teams alike.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

What's In It For You?

  • 100% company-paid health, dental, and vision insurance (including family coverage)
  • HSA contributions of $1,800 per year
  • 401K and matching of 100% for first 3% and 50-100 for next 4%, fully vested after 1 year
  • Flexible PTO and 11 paid holidays, plus a Quarterly Wellness Day
  • $2,500 annual professional development stipend
  • $100/month phone and internet reimbursement
  • Complete remote setup — Mac or Dell laptop, 2 monitors, and a one-time $250 gear stipend
  • Fully remote work environment across the contiguous U.S.

Most importantly, you’ll have the opportunity to shape the engineering culture and technical direction of one of the most impactful automation platforms in financial services.

How We Work — Our Core Values

Be Kind — We are kind and helpful. We care and act with empathy. We take care of ourselves, each other, and our customers. We understand boundaries. We believe clear is kind. We exhibit healthy behaviors and are self-aware.

Be Authentic — We are genuine. We are real. No pretenses. We know ourselves and celebrate our differences of thoughts, ideas, and skills. We show our true self — our whole self — every day. We unlock our teams' potential by unlocking our own and each other's potential. There is only one you and we want to see YOU every day.

Be Collaborative — We unite for a common cause. We are in pursuit of the best idea — not our own idea. As a remote company, we must collaborate and communicate to make a difference — an impact. We do this for our teams and for our customers.

Be Determined — Giving up is not in our nature. We are smart people who solve tough problems. We have a bias toward action. We strive for great outcomes. We achieve our goals. We deliver success for customers, ourselves, and each other.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This is a remote position performed primarily in a home office setting. The role involves extended computer use and virtual collaboration. Occasional travel (up to 5%) for team gatherings.
