Job description

Verisys is looking for a hands-on Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer with deep AWS expertise to help build, secure, and scale the infrastructure behind our healthcare credentialing platform. Our environment is primarily Windows-based, and you will be our subject matter expert for Linux, our on-premises Nutanix environment, container platforms (Rancher and Amazon ECS Anywhere), SMTP relay, and SSL/TLS certificates. This is a remote role with high ownership, focused mainly on DevOps and cloud engineering with a meaningful systems administration component. This is a generalist role on a small team: you will move between cloud engineering, systems administration, and whatever the business needs next, so comfort with shifting priorities matters as much as any single skill.   Please note this is a remote opportunity, but you "MUST" live in one of the following states to be considered: AZ, CO, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MD, MA, MO, NC, OH, OK, PA, TN, UT, VA, WI
Duties/Responsibilities:

Cloud & Containers

  • Design, build, and operate secure, highly available AWS infrastructure (EC2, VPC, IAM, ECS, S3, RDS, Route 53, CloudWatch, Systems Manager) following the AWS Well-Architected Framework, with an eye on security, cost, and disaster recovery.

  • Manage infrastructure as code (CloudFormation) and support CI/CD pipelines for container builds and deployments.

  • Run containerized workloads on Amazon ECS and ECS Anywhere, and administer Rancher native Cattle clusters.

  • Systems Administration

    • Serve as the Linux subject matter expert: provisioning, hardening, patching, performance tuning, and troubleshooting across physical, virtual, and cloud servers.

    • Administer our Windows Server environment, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS/DHCP, and IIS, on-premises and on EC2.

    • Administer our on-premises Nutanix environment using Prism Element and Prism Central, including cluster health, AHV virtual machine management, capacity planning, upgrades, and data protection.

    • Automate configuration and patching with Python, PowerShell, Bash, and AWS Systems Manager.

    • Email, Certificates & Reliability

      • Own our SMTP relay infrastructure (Postfix and/or Amazon SES), including SPF, DKIM, DMARC, TLS, and deliverability troubleshooting.

      • Own SSL/TLS certificate renewals and installation across IIS, Linux web servers, Postfix, and AWS (ACM, load balancers), automating renewals wherever possible.

      • Maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting, participate in on-call, and support HITRUST and SOC 2 compliance.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Deep, hands-on AWS experience and strong knowledge of AWS security, networking, and best practices.

  • Expert-level Linux administration and strong Windows Server administration skills.

  • Hands-on experience with Rancher-native Cattle clusters and Amazon ECS / ECS Anywhere.

  • Strong hands-on experience administering Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure, including Prism Element, Prism Central, and AHV.

  • Proficiency with CloudFormation, and PowerShell/Bash scripting; strong Python skills are a major plus.

  • Working knowledge of SMTP relay configuration and end-to-end SSL/TLS certificate management (CSRs, chains, OpenSSL, PEM/PFX).

  • Solid networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, VPN, and security groups.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.

  • Adaptable and comfortable wearing many hats, with the ability to shift between cloud, systems, and support work as priorities change.

Education/Experience:

Required:

  • 5+ years in Cloud Engineering, DevOps, SRE, and/or systems administration, including 3+ years supporting production workloads in AWS.

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.

  • Preferred:

    • Strong Python development skills for automation and AWS integrations (e.g., boto3).

    • AWS certification (Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator, or DevOps Engineer).

    • Red Hat, Linux Foundation, Microsoft, or Nutanix (e.g., NCP-MCI) certification.

    • Experience in healthcare or other regulated environments (HIPAA, SOC 2, HITRUST).
