Zayo’s 141,000-mile network in North America and Europe includes extensive metro connectivity to thousands of buildings and data centers. Zayo’s communications infrastructure solutions include dark fiber, private data networks, wavelengths, Ethernet, and dedicated Internet access. Zayo serves wireless and wireline carriers, media, tech, content, finance, healthcare and other large enterprises.

Zayo is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Logical Network Inventory, to join our growing Lit Network Inventory team. In this role, you'll be a key player in building, scaling, and automating the next generation of our network tooling infrastructure.

The Senior Software Engineer, Logical Network Inventory is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting software solutions that improve the accuracy, automation, integration, and scalability of Zayo's Logical Network Inventory ecosystem.

This role will have a strong focus on automation, APIs, system integrations, and data quality solutions supporting Netcracker and associated network inventory systems. The Senior Software Engineer will work closely with the Logical Inventory Product Manager, Application Administrators, Network Engineering, Functional Leads, and other technology teams to deliver capabilities supporting the Logical Inventory product roadmap.

The position will serve as a senior technical resource within the Logical Inventory team, providing technical direction, solution design, code reviews, troubleshooting support, and mentorship to junior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and support software solutions supporting Zayo's Logical Network Inventory ecosystem
  • Design and develop APIs and integration services that enable reliable exchange of network inventory data between Netcracker and upstream/downstream systems
  • Develop automation to improve inventory creation, validation, reconciliation, remediation, and lifecycle management
  • Develop automated data quality controls to identify missing, invalid, inconsistent, duplicate, stale, or improperly modeled network inventory
  • Develop reconciliation solutions that compare Netcracker inventory against network discovery platforms and other authoritative data sources
  • Design automated remediation processes for inventory discrepancies where appropriate, including appropriate validation, controls, logging, and exception handling
  • Develop tools and services that reduce manual inventory administration and improve the scalability and reliability of inventory operations
  • Work with Application Administrators and network subject matter experts to understand complex inventory issues and develop sustainable automated solutions
  •  Develop a deep understanding of network inventory models, including network resources, hierarchies, connectivity, relationships, dependencies, and service associations
  • Translate network and inventory requirements into technical designs, data models, integration patterns, APIs, and automation solutions
  • Support the Logical Inventory product roadmap by providing technical analysis, solution architecture, effort estimates, implementation recommendations, and identification of technical dependencies
  • Partner with the Logical Inventory Product Manager and Functional Leads to evaluate proposed capabilities and determine appropriate technical solutions
  • Design solutions that consider scalability, maintainability, performance, resiliency, observability, and long-term operational support
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, interface specifications, API documentation, data mappings, solution designs, and operational procedures
  • Establish and promote software engineering standards, including source control, code review, testing, deployment, logging, monitoring, and documentation practices
  • Perform code reviews and provide technical guidance to other engineers
  • Mentor and support junior software engineers through solution design, development, troubleshooting, and knowledge sharing
  • Assist with complex production incidents involving inventory data, APIs, integrations, automation, or application interfaces
  • Perform root cause analysis of recurring integration and data quality issues and develop solutions that address systemic causes rather than relying on manual remediation
  • Collaborate with Application Administrators during Netcracker upgrades, application changes, and releases to identify and test impacts to APIs, integrations, automation, and data flows
  • Coordinate with internal engineering teams and external vendors as necessary to resolve complex technical issues
  • Identify opportunities to improve Logical Inventory architecture, automation, data quality, and engineering practices

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field, OR equivalent relevant professional experience
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of software engineering or application development experience
  • Strong Python development experience is required
  • Strong SQL experience, including experience working with complex relational data models, is required.
  • Experience designing, developing, and supporting SOAP/REST APIs and system integrations is required
  • Experience developing production-grade automation, data processing, or integration solutions
  • Experience with API authentication, error handling, retry strategies, logging, monitoring, and integration resiliency
  • Experience integrating enterprise applications using APIs, messaging, event-driven architectures, and/or batch data processing
  • Experience designing automated data validation, reconciliation, and data quality solutions
  • Experience working with large and complex datasets and performing root cause analysis of data discrepancies
  • Experience with source control, code review, automated testing, CI/CD, and modern software development practices
  • Ability to work effectively in Linux environments
  • Experience designing and supporting highly available production software and integration services
  • Experience with telecommunications network inventory systems such as Netcracker, MetaSolv, or similar OSS platforms is strongly preferred
  • Experience modeling or working with complex network structures, including network resources, hierarchies, connectivity, relationships, and dependencies, is strongly preferred
  • Understanding of telecommunications network technologies and the relationships between physical, logical, and service inventory is strongly preferred
  • Experience with network discovery, inventory reconciliation, or network automation platforms is a plus
  • Experience with cloud platforms, containers, orchestration, and modern application deployment technologies is a plus
  • Strong analytical and complex problem-solving skills
  • Ability to translate business, network, and inventory requirements into scalable technical solutions
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Demonstrated ability to work across software engineering, network engineering, operations, product, and vendor teams
  • Ability to independently lead technical design and problem-solving efforts
