Diné Development Corporation (DDC) is seeking a highly skilled z/OS Automations Scheduling Support Technician to provide advanced automation, scheduling, monitoring, and operational support for IBM z/OS mainframe environments. This position is responsible for identifying opportunities to improve manual processes through automation, supporting enterprise job scheduling and monitoring solutions, implementing software upgrades, and ensuring the stability, security, and performance of mission-critical mainframe systems.
The successful candidate will work closely with system programmers, engineers, government personnel, and technical teams to develop automated solutions, manage system resources, support disaster recovery activities, maintain documentation, and ensure compliance with Department of Defense (DoD), Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), U.S. Cyber Command, and organizational policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Provide the analytical ability to identify problem areas in manual processes and develop automated solutions.
- Utilize IBM System z/OS automation, job scheduling, system monitoring and alerting products from vendors to include BMC Software, CA Technologies, and IBM.
- Provide customer support (internal and external) on questions and incidents relating to automation on the mainframe systems, to include changes, upgrades, new and discontinued features, and known problems.
- Ensure that all system resources required for automation are available for successful implementation.
- Ensure shared resources and the tools used to manage resource sharing are properly configured.
- Develop test plans, test cases, and test data for each release test effort. Test plans will include security compliance, functional, integration, performance, and regression testing to detect and resolve flaws that may impact the security, integrity, and stability of the automation.
- Coordinate with other system programmers and managers whenever a change in automation interfaces with another mainframe component that and may require changes to, or have an impact on, that component.
- Ability to work in a team environment and share developed solutions for approval and implementation.
- Adhere to and participate in this organization’s Change Management and CAB policies and procedures.
- Provide support using standard tools (currently BMC Control Products Suite) for scheduling to include building, maintaining, and scheduling batch processing (to include complex system abend (error) recovery techniques). Provide real-time accurate monitoring and troubleshooting of multiple mainframe systems and applications.
- Use government documented processes and procedures to download and install application releases.
- Develop and deliver detailed documentation, using government specified documentation software and processes. This documentation shall include details of download requirements, installation dataset names and configuration specifications used to implement or install the software or hardware.
- Utilize government specified tools to create, submit, and update change and incident requests. The change or incident requests will conform to government documented requirements for change requests, incident requests and service requests, including implementation/upgrade start and end dates, specification of systems affected, installation and verification plans, back out procedures, specification of tasks required to be performed by other teams, and ASI requirements required for mission partner coordination.
- Properly handle documents according to appropriate regulations and guidance including, classification level.
- Complete required annual DISA and DoD training by government specified deadlines.
- Use government documented processes and procedures to request and download required software, software patches and documentation.
- Create, execute, and debug JCL to use IBM system utilities (including IEBCOPY, IEBGENER, and IDCAMS) to create and manipulate datasets and files on the IBM z/OS mainframe platform.
- Adhere to DoD and U.S. Cyber Command Directives, and local policies for security access, processes, and regulations.
- Exhibit effective and professional interpersonal skills to include written and oral communications.
- Review & update all SOP/TTP’s to reflect process, technology, organization changes, etc. Develop and coordinate changes to the author, team/technical lead or section supervisor and ensures new documentation is relayed to team.
- Attend and participate in meetings, provide technical expertise to respond to questions, issues, and concerns.
- On the job, provide support, train, counsel, and mentor government employees, junior technicians, and engineers within the teams.
- Plan, create, open, update and close change and incident management tickets using government approved software and processes. The tickets shall include implementation schedules, affected systems, affected software or hardware components, test plans, back-out plans, and required CRQ/ASI information as documented.
- Participate in regularly scheduled CAB meetings to obtain final approval for implementing application release upgrades.
- Use Information Technology Infrastructure Library processes and procedures to document implementation of application software implementations and upgrades using government specified processes and procedures.
- Provide required support for disaster recovery COOP exercises. This includes creation, interpretation, and updating documentation of COOP/disaster recovery processes and procedures to perform tabletop simulations and actual recovery of IBM Mainframe platforms.
- Create and provide installation/upgrade status reports to the government.
- Comply with requirements of 8570 and 8140, including Computing Environment certification and Security+, A+, or equivalent as specified in the DoD order
Qualifications:
- Years of Experience: 3 years
- Education Level: Associates degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mat
- Clearance Requirements: Secret
- Certification Requirements: IAT-I
