Job description

Description

At Nice Healthcare, we provide accessible, compassionate, and high-quality care to employees and their families. Through a combination of virtual visits, in-person care, integrated lab testing, mental health, and physical therapy, we make everyday care easy and affordable.

Our core company value is simple: love everyone the way you want to be loved. We operate with a remote-first culture that prioritizes smart thinking over long hours, values life balance, and supports putting your personal life first.

Engineering

Engineering at Nice is a lean, collaborative team where your impact is immediate. We learn, iterate, and build the digital tools that connect our clinicians to our patients.

As a hands-on Principal Software Engineer, you will spend the majority of your time writing, reviewing, and shipping critical production code while helping drive high-impact initiatives like optimizing real-time clinician dispatch and integrating AI capabilities into our clinical and patient platforms.

What you'll do at Nice:

  • Deliver High-Impact Platform Features: Write production code for initiatives such as refining clinician routing algorithms, optimizing dispatch logic, and integrating practical AI capabilities into our systems.
  • Collaborative QA & Quality Ownership: In our lean engineering environment with no dedicated QA team, partner closely with peers to test each other’s code live on our web and mobile applications, ensuring high reliability and a 7-star user experience.
  • Collaborate with Purpose: Partner cross-functionally with Product and Clinical Leaders to translate complex healthcare hurdles into elegant, scalable software solutions.
  • Refine Engineering Standards: Build upon our existing engineering practices, conduct constructive design and code reviews to refine guidelines around security, scalability, testing, and performance.
  • Mentor & Elevate Peers: Build up our “learn from each other” culture. Mentor, coach, and elevate engineers through impactful architecture reviews, pair programming, and ongoing technical growth.
  • Champion Compliance & Security: Architect resilient systems that adhere strictly to HIPAA guidelines, patient privacy standards, and health data security frameworks.
  • Lead with Transparency & Adaptability: Communicate clearly in our remote environment by keeping teammates in the loop and flagging blockers early. Adapt quickly to shifting priorities while delivering high-quality work in an evolving agile space.
  • Support the Mission: Respond to support issues during business hours to ensure our clinicians and patients enjoy a frictionless care experience.
Requirements
  • 10+ Years of Engineering Experience: Deep experience developing, deploying, and maintaining high-quality, secure, and complex web and mobile platforms.
  • High-Output IC Leadership: Proven ability as a Staff or Principal Engineer who thrives on writing significant amounts of production code while guiding system design.
  • Modern Stack Mastery: Deep proficiency with our stack, specifically Kotlin, Spring Boot, Python, TypeScript, React (for Web), and relational databases (PostgreSQL).
  • Cloud, IaC & Automation Expertise: Strong practical experience with GCP, containerization (Docker), Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, and continuous integration/delivery pipelines via GitHub Actions.
  • Algorithmic & AI Interest: Familiarity with optimization problems (e.g., dispatch/routing logic) and integrating AI/LLM tools or APIs into existing application workflows.
  • Healthcare Domain Experience: Prior experience navigating HIPAA compliance, EHR/EMR systems, telehealth platforms, or health-tech integrations (HL7, FHIR) is highly preferred.
  • Pragmatic Problem Solver: Ability to balance technical perfection with rapid product execution, making sound trade-offs that align with business and patient needs.
  • Effective Technical Communicator: Skilled at translating complex "tech-speak" into clear, understandable language for non-technical partners and stakeholders.
  • Growth Mindset & Drive: Humility to own your work and mistakes in a "safe to fail" culture that values curiosity, continuous learning, and mutual support

What Nice offers to you:

  • 100% Remote Work Environment: Work from anywhere in the United States.
  • Work Soft, Play Soft Culture: We genuinely support you putting your personal life first.
  • Time Off: 25 Days of PTO that we actively encourage you to use, plus paid holidays.
  • Healthcare & Wellness: Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Life Insurance, plus personal and family use of Nice Healthcare (in eligible locations).
  • Retirement: 401(k) plan with up to a 3% employer contribution match.
