Digital Payments & Money Transfer

Mukuru is one of the largest money transfer providers in Africa and a leading Next Gen Financial Services Platform that offers affordable and reliable financial services to the emerging consumer. The foundation of our business was built by providing the continent’s migrant diaspora with safe, convenient international money transfers. From this base we have grown a wide range of products and services that take their cue from our customers’ needs and aspirations for greater financial security and a better life. To this end, we continue to build a highly robust and resilient physical and digital financial payments infrastructure across Africa that unlocks new value-added services for our loyal customers. This includes cash transfers, Mukuru Funeral Cover, and the Mukuru Card. As a fintech provider, Mukuru has underpinned its successful customer engagement strategy with the ability to ‘speak the language’ of its users and gain a grassroots understanding of the unique pain points that customers face in each market. Our engagement platforms include WhatsApp, free USSD, the Mukuru App, and the website. Customers are always able to speak to Mukuru about any challenges or difficulties with the platform, whether it’s a Mukuru agent in a physical booth, at a branch, over the telephone, or via a virtual live chat function in a language of the customer’s choosing, and often in their mother tongue. Take a walk through our Contact Centre at any time, and you’ll hear conversations in 15 languages – our very own united nations of Africa and Asia.

Protect Financial Systems. Detect Risk. Make a Difference.

At Mukuru, we're more than a fintech business. We're a team committed to creating safe, affordable, and accessible financial services for millions of people across Africa and beyond. Behind every secure transaction is a dedicated Financial Crime team working to protect our customers, our business, and the communities we serve.

We're looking for a Transaction Monitoring Analyst (TMA) who is naturally curious, analytical, and passionate about uncovering patterns that others might miss. If you enjoy investigations, solving complex problems, and combating financial crime, this opportunity could be your next career move.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Transaction Monitoring Analyst, you'll be on the front line of protecting Mukuru from financial crime risks. You'll investigate unusual transaction activity, identify emerging threats, and help ensure that our AML/CFT controls remain effective and compliant.

Investigate and Analyse

  • Identify potential money laundering, terrorist financing, mule activity, structuring, and other suspicious activities.
  • Produce clear, comprehensive investigation findings and recommendations.

Protect the Business

  • Escalate high-risk or suspicious activity when required.
  • Support enhanced due diligence investigations.
  • Identify emerging financial crime trends and control weaknesses.
  • Help strengthen risk management processes across the business.

Turn Data into Insight

  • Conduct audits and quality reviews.
  • Compile transaction monitoring statistics and corridor reports.
  • Share trends, patterns, and observations with stakeholders.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance investigation quality and efficiency.

Collaborate and Grow

  • Partner with colleagues across Financial Crime and internal teams.
  • Participate in team discussions on emerging threats and trends.
  • Stay up to date with evolving AML/CFT regulations, typologies, and industry best practices.
  • Continuously develop your professional expertise within the financial crime space.

What We're Looking For

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years' experience within a Money Service Business (MSB) or similar financial services environment.
  • Experience in Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Financial Crime Compliance, Transaction Monitoring, or a related field.
  • Proven experience investigating potentially suspicious financial activity.
  • Experience analysing transactional and customer data to support investigations.

Qualifications

  • Qualification in Finance, Law, Compliance, Risk Management, Criminology, or a related field will be advantageous.
  • AML/CFT certifications such as ACAMS will be highly advantageous.

Knowledge

  • Understanding of AML/CFT principles and financial crime risks.
  • Knowledge of the FIC Act and relevant South African regulatory requirements.
