Job description

Job Description

YAGRO Ltd (www.yagro.com) are seeking a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer with strong technical expertise and proven experience in delivery planning and line management. The role is responsible for designing, developing and maintaining enterprise Software as a Service (SaaS) and white label technology solutions across the full stack. It combines hands-on engineering with planning and coordinating delivery, managing and developing engineers, and working closely with product and commercial colleagues to translate customer needs into secure, scalable and reliable software for agri-food enterprises.

Whilst this is a largely remote role, you will be required to attend the Cambridge office  one day a week.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Proficiency & Problem Solving: Develop a strong understanding of YAGRO’s stack and products within your first three months, becoming the technical authority for the systems and features you own. Design, build and maintain production-quality software across the full stack, using Python, TypeScript and raw SQL against PostgreSQL, without an ORM. Develop responsive applications using Vue 3 and Nuxt in SPA mode, alongside asynchronous Python services using FastAPI or equivalent frameworks. Lead architectural design, applying sound software design principles and knowledge of databases, web frameworks and distributed data processing to build scalable, efficient solutions. Evaluate and justify technical trade-offs, including the cost, performance and reliability of AWS Lambda processing pipelines, considering cold starts, container sizing, retries and error handling. Move confidently between products to address new features, complex technical issues and scalability challenges, building cross-product familiarity with support where needed.

Project Planning & Collaboration: Act as the technical counterpart to the Project Manager, translating requirements into clear technical plans and breaking multi-month initiatives into achievable milestones. Contribute to sprint and quarterly planning by estimating effort, identifying dependencies, assessing capacity and surfacing risks or sequencing constraints early. Help define scope, keep delivery plans coherent across engineers and recommend changes when technical cost or risk outweighs the expected benefit. Challenge assumptions constructively, explaining feasibility, scope and delivery decisions clearly to technical and non-technical colleagues. Lead technical discussions and code reviews, building agreement through sound reasoning and practical guidance.

Engineering Leadership: Mentor engineers across the team, offering structured feedback that improves the quality and independence of their work. Act as a first point of contact when colleagues are stuck, judging when to intervene directly and when to support them in working through a problem. Set a clear technical direction, lead through influence and example, and address performance or wellbeing concerns promptly with appropriate support.

Non-functional Practice & Quality: Take ownership of the security, performance, reliability and maintainability of the systems you develop. Champion proportionate, rigorous testing and maintain appropriate coverage, holding consistent quality standards under delivery pressure. Maintain clear technical documentation and model good engineering practice through implementation and code review. Develop and maintain CI/CD workflows using GitHub Actions or equivalent tooling, incorporating linting, testing, type checking and deployment on merge. Work with AWS services, including container-based Lambda, RDS, S3 and Lightsail as appropriate, and manage infrastructure through Terraform or equivalent tools. Lead incident investigation and resolution, identify root causes and implement improvements that reduce recurrence.

Learning & Continuous Improvement: Build an understanding of the agri-food sectors, customer profiles and workflows that YAGRO’s products support, using this knowledge to inform practical engineering decisions. Proactively identify technical problems and opportunities, define the work required and take ownership of improvements. Keep your knowledge of relevant technologies and engineering practices current, sharing learning across the team and assessing new approaches against customer value, cost and operational needs. Contribute ideas on technology and innovation, and support Data Science research and development where engineering input can help turn promising work into production-ready solutions.

Product & Business Understanding: Align technical decisions with business objectives and contribute to technology and product roadmap planning. Work closely with Product, Project Management, Business Development and other colleagues to translate customer feedback into secure, scalable and user-friendly solutions. Represent YAGRO’s technical capabilities directly to customers, explaining decisions and limitations in plain language, answering technical questions during calls or demonstrations, and handling challenges around feasibility and timelines confidently. Build approachable, collaborative relationships across the business and bring informed recommendations to discussions about product development and future opportunities.

Why work for us?

At YAGRO, you’ll have the opportunity to shape technology that helps agri-food businesses make better use of their data. Working in a collaborative team, you’ll influence technical decisions, take ownership of delivery and see the impact of your work on customers. For a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer, this is an opportunity to combine hands-on development with planning and people leadership, supporting other engineers while tackling varied technical challenges. We value curiosity, initiative and practical problem-solving, giving you room to contribute ideas, share knowledge and grow alongside the business.
