Job description

This is a remote position.

Currently, we are looking for an Assistant Management Accountant to join an established telecommunications company, delivering turnkey connectivity services across the UK. With more than 800 employees, the company works with major clients including Virgin Media, Community Fibre, GigaClear and Zayo.

In this role, you will support the finance function by preparing journals, performing reconciliations, processing financial data, and contributing to monthly management accounts. You will work closely with operational and finance stakeholders while developing your accounting and analytical skills with a clear progression path toward a Management Accountant position.


Your Duties

  • Support the month-end close process, ensuring financial information is complete and accurate.
  • Prepare journals, including accruals, prepayments, and reclassifications, with appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Assist with management accounts and variance analysis.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain clear and organised financial working papers for audit and internal review.
  • Ensure costs are accurately coded and allocated across departments and workstreams.
  • Prepare recurring financial reports to support budget monitoring.
  • Support budget holders with financial queries and cost explanations.
  • Work with transactional finance teams to resolve posting and data discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate financial information across relevant systems.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes, data accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Support improvements to reporting templates, dashboards, and documentation.
  • Continue developing technical accounting and analytical skills.


Requirements


  • 1–3 years of experience in a finance support, assistant accountant, or junior accounting role.
  • AAT Level 4 qualified or actively studying toward completion.
  • Working knowledge of core accounting principles, including double-entry bookkeeping, accruals, and prepayments.
  • Experience with month-end processes and account reconciliations.
  • Familiarity with management reporting and variance analysis.
  • Experience using accounting or ERP systems; SAP, Oracle, or Sage is desirable.
  • Good Excel and Microsoft Office skills; experience with Power BI is desirable.
  • Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain financial information to non-finance colleagues.
  • Analytical and problem-solving mindset.
  • Ability to handle confidential financial information professionally.
  • Fluent English.
  • Experience in a regulated or multi-entity environment is a plus.
  • Willingness to progress toward a professional qualification such as CIMA, ACCA, or ACA.
