JOB SUMMARY:
The Database Lead is a working lead who both manages and actively contributes to the SQL Developer team. This role is responsible for the team's day-to-day management — including assigning and prioritizing work, overseeing performance, and supporting the growth of each team member — while also personally designing, architecting, and optimizing SQL Server database solutions that support ERP and business applications. This role partners closely with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, reliable, and well-monitored software solutions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Team Leadership & Management
• Directly manage the SQL Developer team, including assigning and prioritizing work, setting expectations, and overseeing day-to-day workload across the team.
• Own performance management for the team, including regular 1:1s, performance feedback, goal-setting, and contributing to performance reviews.
• Provide day-to-day technical guidance, mentorship, and support to SQL Developers, helping them grow their skills and resolve technical blockers.
• Lead code reviews and establish coding standards, patterns, and best practices across database development.
• Lead onboarding and training for new developers, including training on Supplylogic's systems, tools, and domain knowledge (e.g., supplier integrations, WMS).
• Act as a point of escalation for complex technical issues and production incidents, guiding troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
• Contribute to technical design decisions and architecture direction in collaboration with the team.
• Report on team progress, capacity, and risks to the VP-Development, and represent the team in cross-functional planning discussions.
Hands-On Development
• Design scalable SQL Server database architectures supporting ERP and other application data.
• Develop and manage conceptual, logical, and physical data models for all custom-built applications.
• Establish database standards, indexing strategies, naming conventions, and best practices.
• Design, develop, manage, and optimize tables, stored procedures, views, functions, triggers, and T-SQL code.
• Manage and monitor SQL Agent jobs.
• Partner with the Infrastructure team on backups, restores, server permissions, and HIPAA compliance.
• Monitor and tune database performance, including execution plans, indexing, blocking, and deadlocks.
• Support ERP modules data replication, including Sales, Purchasing, Inventory, Finance, AR, AP, Shipping, and Warehouse Operations.
• Design and support SSIS, SSRS, and other database integrations, ( including but not limited to maintaining SSRS reports and subscriptions, creating/maintaining SSIS packages for client data, invoice transmissions, and remit transactions, supporting order integration with ERP and shipping modules, supporting the Supplier Integration team at the data level, and managing database syncs from Production to Development.)
• Build reporting-friendly structures for Power BI and SSRS.
• Ensure data integrity, validation, security, and auditability.
• Partner with application developers, business analysts, and infrastructure teams on all data initiatives.
• Support evaluation and implementation of data lake solutions, such as Snowflake.
