Job description

Senior Oracle Database Administrator / SME

Company: SMX Services & Consulting, Inc.

Client: U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO)

Employment: Full-Time, W-2

Location: Remote

Compensation: $81.98–$85.19/hour W-2

Status: Contingent upon contract award and Government approval

Anticipated Start: November 16, 2026

Contract: Initial 10.5-month period with four 12-month option periods, potentially through September 2031

Schedule: 8 hours/day within 7:30 AM–6:00 PM ET; occasional after-hours support required

Position Overview

SMX is seeking a Senior Oracle Database Administrator / SME to support enterprise database operations for the U.S. Government Publishing Office. This senior Key Personnel role will provide hands-on Oracle administration and technical leadership across mission-critical production environments.

The position is part of a four-person DBA team supporting Oracle and a broader database environment that includes SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, and related technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize enterprise Oracle databases.
  • Manage Oracle installation, configuration, provisioning, upgrades, migrations, and patching.
  • Support Oracle Grid Infrastructure, RMAN, PL/SQL, SQL, high availability, and disaster recovery.
  • Manage backups, restores, point-in-time recovery, failover procedures, and DR exercises.
  • Monitor and tune database performance, storage, memory, capacity, SQL queries, and indexes.
  • Manage database security, users, roles, privileges, auditing, encryption, and security patching.
  • Support development, test, staging, and production environments.
  • Lead complex incident troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
  • Develop scripts and automation to improve DBA operations.
  • Execute approved changes and maintain implementation and rollback procedures.
  • Manage incidents, requests, and changes through ServiceNow.
  • Maintain technical documentation, recovery procedures, configuration records, and operational runbooks.
  • Provide technical guidance and knowledge transfer to other DBA personnel.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of database administration experience.
  • Extensive hands-on Oracle DBA experience in enterprise production environments.
  • Strong experience with:
  • Oracle Database and Grid Infrastructure
  • Oracle RMAN, PL/SQL, and SQL
  • Backup, recovery, and point-in-time recovery
  • High Availability and Disaster Recovery
  • Performance monitoring and tuning
  • Database security and access administration
  • Upgrades, migrations, patching, and lifecycle management
  • Troubleshooting and root-cause analysis
  • Scripting and automation
  • Experience supporting mission-critical production databases.
  • Ability to independently lead complex technical activities.
  • Strong communication and technical documentation skills.
  • Ability to support scheduled after-hours maintenance when required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MariaDB.
  • Experience with cloud and on-premises database environments.
  • ServiceNow and SolarWinds experience.
  • Oracle professional certifications, such as Oracle Certified Professional or Oracle DBA certifications.
  • Other relevant cloud, infrastructure, database, or security certifications.
